Hi. I like drawing, and I’m starting to learn more about character design. It is cool stuff to learn. So, I start to go through the process, then I get unmotivated because I don’t really have a reason to do it other than for fun. Idk why I would want to put so much effort into designing a character, creating a story, building a world, if it isn’t going to go anywhere. No one will see it. I’m not a professional, so it’s not like I’ll be able to see it in an animation or on the big screen or anything. Of course me and whoever I show it will see it, but that’s it. I could spend so much time building a world, only for it to stay in the sketch book forever. Idk, it’s unfulfilling to me, but it’s something I think about often and something I want to do. When I draw, I end up refining skills (gesture, perspective, shading, line quality, anatomy) and don’t design anything. So, what motivates you guys to create characters? What keeps you going and enthused?

I like creating characters because then I can research different types of trauma and human psychology; also to express my emotions better. Just drawing cool clothes and poses fill me with joy. It’s the passion for it that keeps me going (even if there is no benefit)

What i recommend to do is basically have a world you come up with. Doesnt need to be anything big and extravagant. Could be as simple as a magic school. Then imagine what peole in that word would be like. You dont need to have this be for a project if you dont want to. And its totally to come up with ideas that never get used. Ive over the years come up with 6 worlds. And only one has actually turned into something. I have a friend who i swear shes come up with 50+ worlds. And she has zero plans to do anything with the vast majority of them. And this is totally fine. Dont worry about whether someone will see it or not. Maybe it will come to fruition maybe it wont. What matters is that you the creator enjoy doing it

Just because its fun. Thats why I do it. Its a way to occupy my time. Of course I love telling people about my stories but I dont do it solely because of that. I do it because I enjoy it.
If you want to publish it though theres many websites where you can do so for free (wattpad, for example). It doesnt always have to stay in your mind. Theres also communities of people who love to hear and tell stories
Even on this server there will be people willing to listen to your stories if you look hard enough
