First time fully shading a piece with pencil and I'd love to know if there's anything I could improve on in the future! I've realized I tend to rush when shading and don't slow down to really check the values even though I know I should, when the shading is complicated I get overwhelmed, if anyone has tips for this also please let me know! did you draw it at an angle? the left side is generally lower and the piece looks slanted
I actually might have cut the paper in a way that makes it slanted? It's something I noticed too, I'll try to pay more attention to making things more level next time, thank you!
not necessarily
the shoulders and face are still uneven
Ohh I see how especially the shoulders look uneven, tysm for pointing that out! I'll try to work on making sure my guidelines are the correct angle beforehand ^^
About the eye, I'd suggest you shade in the eyes aswell so the iris and lashes are hardly visible, but only keep the light bouncing off the eye lid, I say this because the human features diminish the darker the shadow around them, which means if I have a lot of hard shadow my eyes would be less and less visible.
A good rule I've been using recently in this case is:
If the eye is in shadow, and I can make the iris out while squinting, then it's too detailed.
Nothing you can do about it now dw.
