Hey! I’m super new to all this and just trying to learn art from the ground up. I’ve been using whatever I can—tracing, breaking down anatomy, studying shapes from references—and kinda trying to learn everything all at once. But honestly, it feels like there’s always a hundred more things I’m supposed to know just to make real progress.

I keep seeing people say stuff like “start with basic shapes,” but I’m not really sure what that means or how to actually practice it. Like, what am I actually trying to learn when people say that? Any advice on where to start or how to focus would be super appreciated.

or have you been doing it for a while and looking to improve

I’ve been practicing for a few hours each day for the past week or so. So I’d say I’m pretty new?

dont worry about improvement right now if youre this new

#

focus on finding a love for art first

#

a love for art and the art you create

#

because otherwise you will turn into the guy in the post below

#

its a huge problem ive seen with so many artists where they only improve improve improve, constantly. and then they give up in a few weeks to a year because they hate art

#

of course its good to want improvement, but dont study so much as you plan on doing here. imagine youve taken an interest in a new language, you dont automatically jump into discussing politics in that new language

you listen to people speak it, maybe learn some common words and phrases, get a feel for it yknow
