#Shadow / Lighting Help?
69 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Ok, let's start with shading a ball on the ground, and the box on the side (same light direction). These will be our reference points and think pieces (You're doing the work, others can guide you and give you hints but you gotta figure out the solution)
Oh the cast shadows and form shadows exercise?
Yeah. Some artists do shade a ball first before shading whatever is on the scene because if a certain angle of the sphere is of a color and value, then the same angle on the charcter/thing/etc will likely be similar
So we are going to start simple with the sphere and box and then work our way towards more complex things
Apologies for the low quality of it all
Im still not used to the whole brushes and colours and such
It’s all a bit overwhelming to be honest 😅
Ik it looks very choppy and stuff
I just really don’t know how to not do that 🤷🏼♀️
Can’t really phrase it better
Apologies
That's perfectly fine if you want a choppy shading style. Ok now for the box
if you want smoother shading, use a semi transparent brush
and layer the colours on top of each other until its smooth
this also kind of adds a beautiful texture
i like to use the basic-4 flow opacity
i forgot to say
when doing a full piece though, i like to block out my shadows and highlights with basic-6 details
these are all krita brushes btw
Krita is the GOAT
It’s awesome
So overwhelming
But awesome
-# and free
Btw
Tried to do the box
Everything just started to look like tie-dye
Like
Idk what it is
My brain is just not comprehending this
Is there a tissue box around you you can shine a light on yourself
Nope
But I pulled up reference on my phone
I can clearly see the highlight, the transitional areas, the cast shadow
Etc
Done this practice a billion times on paper and pencil
And idk how to do it digitally for some reason
are you using the blur or smudge tool?
dont use the airbrush
it makes it look to pillowy and doesnt really transition well between colours
as u saw
Yup
.
Looks cool for tie-dye though
If you want, you can open up the brush editor window, play with the settings and cuztomize your own brushes
I don’t know enough about that to really be messing around there I’m gonna be honest
can i see your lineart
i am super curious 😭
I'm still tweaking this brush and I change it bit each drwing but it's just to have a little ruggedness to it
i made this in 2 mins with only this brush
i will vouch for this brush till the end of time
Which brush sorry?
its the best brush in krita for shading especially
Basically when you do shading it's balanace of soft shadows, harder shdows, and then the cst shadow (often the hardest edge, but not always)
Just rq
Is there a shortcut to pull up the colour wheel on krita?
two fingers tap for me on laptop
otherwise you'd have to look into settings/preerences
if you want a custom
if you go to the top on settings
and click dockers
you can add it to your screen
Wait wait wait
Can you animate on krita?
yes you can
That’s awesome
yess krita is the best
Actually 🔥🔥
