My comms just opened a few days ago, and I still have nothing. Here's my comm sheet.

Theres no guarantee youll get anyone. Plus this doesnt really show what youre capable of. It just shows various stages of the same thing. Theres nothing incentivizing anyone to commission you

#

Also chill. Take a deep breath. Even if you dont get much attention you dont need to worry about it

Most artists get no commissions for a bit, it’s extremely unrealistic to expect to get someone within a few days, maybe even a few weeks. You need to keep them open and focus your attention on trying to promote yourself now. And I agree with the person above, this sheet tells me nothing about your art. We need more examples, we need to see your style, and how you draw different things like humans, animals, objects, landscapes, etc.

Also as i look at it closer, i can tell youre still a beginner. Your lines are shaky and cross over eachother

#

People are less likely to commission beginners. Just how it is

Especially considering how competitive the artist commission field is. We need to see a lot more

Youre also a minor. You dont need to worry about maximizing commission income. Minors dont need to try and make money. In fact the ones who genuinely should make money from their art is a small fraction. Im 25 and i still havnt opened commissions. If youre not ready youre not ready. And thats alright

Your tier has nothing to do with time. Its to do with skill. My mom has drawn for 50+ years but still is a beginner

I'm sorry my art style isn't realistic. I'm sorry I grew up on cartoons. I'm sorry I've been doing this as the only hobby my whole life because I'm not good at other things. I'm sorry I'm not caught up on the little details. I have to do commissions because I have failed every job interview ever because they keep asking stupid questions and I'm too awkward around others. My family is broke, I need this.

Realistic isnt the issue. Your shaky lines and the fact that the lines cross over eachother in the corners. All the evidence adds up to beginner.

real sand
#

I dunno, doesn't look like a "beginner" to me

crude summit

Additionally you opened it six days ago. And you haven’t reuploaded it. You need to repost it or else it will get drowned in the channel

#

Zooming in i can see inconsistencies in the lines. Some dont even connect

I'm sorry every pixel isn't flawless. I'll try better next time.

I think it's a little overdramatic for you, I'm sure ciborg didn't mean to make you feel worse, she just stated a fact, your lines seem rushed and unintentionally made and just left to be. You can still work on your style and open comms again, and if no then idk build a community that'd like it, it takes a lot of time

crude summit

Its not something that comes flooding. Even famous artists can struggle to get commissions

Yup, buying art is luxury and not a necessity

Hi there, I noticed your issues with not getting Comms?

Most people tend to go for "cleaner" artlines, even if in your case it is hard to notice unless you're nit picking 😭

But ye, most ppl want higher then what they perceive as "beginner" (dw, I'm pretty much a beginner too)

Not necessarily a bad thing, also people don't usually comm minors, as another issue, they tend to comm older people so there could be quite a few factors into it, not necessarily bad ones tho

#

@real sand

Your art is still really good tho ngl

Being a freelance artist and getting commissions is hard even for pros, a lot of them are leaving the art industry, people who do god tier art you would see in posters, games, movies, museums. They are leaving cause it's hard to get work. If you want commissions, you have to pick a lane, your sheet has to have a good amount of examples and fair prices. Otherwise, you won't see a commission.

I know it's harsh, but you have to be realistic about this. You are in a market with professional artists competing for the same people. Hard to do.

What you can do is put in more work in the art, learn fundamentals, learn color theory, practice practice practice. The biggest markets are for anime character types and specific content like mecha/androids or detail heavy work. You should pick where you want your art to go, and start working towards it. Takes time to earn commissions, takes time to get work.

And most important of all after all this, you need to work on communication. You need to be able to communicate well, be pleasant, be observant and kind. Otherwise nobody will work with you even if you are a god tier artist.

Nothing good comes from talking bad or justifying your art, just get to work and your art will show your effort. 🦾

Regardless of skill, it is also important to also learn the art of marketing, which trust me is a shit of a headache if you really want to be serious about commission. WHICH, you can be yes, even now. But dont stress, as mentioned prior by everyone else in this thread, this is a: Over-saturated, Heavily-competitive, Declining, Luxury market.

It is tough, and thats just the way it is, you'll have to find and almost explore if not exploit every market gaps you can laid your eyes on for even a chance for commission.

If Da Vinci were to be resurrected and decided to work as a freelance artist, theres no guarantee he'll do any better than the majority, its, tough, especially in this current economy.

#

Tldr;? Commission ain't the most consistent source of income and it probably wont ever be for the majority.

Plus, most Comms will only come from good friends at first

#

Good friends as in ones you've known for a while-

So yeah, @real sand as mentioned by the amazing @robust quiver , find your lane, be specialized in perhaps one thing or be broad, either way, you need to really and I mean really stand out. Or else, its gonna be rlly tough.

@real sand

Building an audience can help too

#

Like a fandom

hazy oyster
#

That, you need to do a shit ton of free stuff for an example just to build connection

#

Or do a lot of fanart
