#side view help

Same thing with side profiles for the entire body.. although I don't really draw side profiles often it'd be nice to learn how to do so because I'll be opening commissions soon. ^_^
A piece of advice that has help me a lot is, when you have the front view of the character, draw horizontal lines to delimit all the facial features and then match the side profile to that. Also you need to adjust the neck and the back of the head because your side profile looks more like a 3/4 view than an actual side profile
Lemme give examples
this is actually insane too because like
I can do side profile with reference traditionally
Im very much capable of drawing side profiles with references but the thing is
I don't have a reference for my own oc, I have to make it
Realism is usually my go to as well, but I can't really do much of it on digital.
So this drawing is horrendous but you get the idea. This is what I mean by tracing lines so the features match
Looks awesome!! Is that uh the German artist with controversial opinions?
yyyyyes......
Lines.. so many lines... dies.
π
Interesting choice
True. I mean I wouldn't do that for every side profile drawing, but if you REALLY want the side profile to match the front (for example, for a reference sheet of your oc), I'd do that
sighs.. but what about the body... π
Also about your side profiles @tardy jetty, I think u and op have the same problem. It doesn't look like a side profile, it looks slightly tilted to the front. But tbh I find that harder to do so the fact that u did it on accident deserves an applause
π ITS ALWAYS THE LOW EFFORT DOODLES THAT GET IT GOOD
or maybe cuz I had a reference..
ok lemme try side profiling my persona now
Very quick tracing of a male side profile.
The main thing about your side profile ( @tardy jetty this goes to you too lmao) is that there is not enough space between the ear and the back of the head, and there is too much space between the eye and the bridge of the nose, which creates the illusion that the head is slightly tilted to the front instead of looking at the side
You improvise

Also notice how the neck meets the jawline at its middle more or less, while yours meets the jawline almost at the chin, which also gives the illusion that that's not a side profile
This is basically the angle y'all drew
Mmmmm I love and hate this angle with all my might...
I draw this angle but I deviously tilt the nose at an awkward angle so I don't have to draw that angled eye π«Ά
Based tbh
I was just pointing out the difference between that angle and a side profile in case you were aiming for the second
Yo
Did I get it right?

I struggled on the hair and nose way too much
What race is he?
Side profiles change a lot depending on race.
Filipino Β°^Β° I'm Filipino myself so I modeled him a lil after me
Pluh
I live in the middle of nowhere white America π₯²
I haven't even seen a black person in months
I finna cry I searched up Filipino side profile on Google and it had the most inaccurate bullshit I've ever seen
π’
π
Oh then idk if the advice I'd have given would be correct bur
I was going to say push the forehead in more
tis okay, I need a lil work on the lips..
I hate side view lips. So badly. Especially when they're closed.
When they're open it's even worse because how do I draw a side profile laugh
π’...
Kakakak I love drawing side profile mouths! It's my favourite
Why did I realize just now that you are OP and not another commenter??π
Bro I always confuse random people with OP and OP with random people, sorry for referring to you earlier as a different person than OP lmaooo
Idk if this is what he looks like
I tried as best as I could but again I've never seen anyone philipino. So idk how different it's supposed to look but
Looks super nice!! I would change a few things tho, can I draw over it?
YESSS PLEASE.
π yeah I thought youw ere confused too hb

oh my gyatt thank you imma cry ππππ
I forgot to mention what I changed
So basically I fixed the neck bc it was still not meeting the jawline at the middle and so it didn't completely look like a side view. I also make the hair go over the back of the neck. I moved the ear too to match the proportions of a side view and leave enough space at the back of the head, brought the eye and eyebrows forward (the eyebrows are important as they will be almost touching the end of the face or however you call that, because the eyebrow bone protrudes forward) and fixed the bridge of the nose to reflect the dent at eye level
Hope this helps!!
