Its been almost a month and i am getting tired lol.

I dont really know why but sometimes i get it right and sometimes not, its just making me feel so tired to the point i had to look at the reference, watch videos and learn the muscle structures. Perspective also doesnt help as it adds to the work that i have to learn 🥀

Need help on understanding anatomy (+ perspective)

I think you’re doing fine. Some cases the head is just far too large regardless of perspective.

I think you’re pondering too much about the actual form of the muscles rather than the common forms that are often used to imitate those muscles.

Look at Bridgman— the one artist everyone looks up to eventually in their art path as they stumble into anatomy. He uses a fuck ton of eclipses.

But the thing is, i dont know how the muscles would form

#

I kept struggling due to it

I think your at point where you dislike your art but thats the point where your actually improving alot, cuz it looks pretty good to me

#

I think u should give michael hamptons figure drawing book a shot if you havent

#

Maybe a looser feel would give u a better look

What exactly are you having a problem with? If you’re having an easier time drawing the torso and attaching the muscles, then you shouldn’t struggle with the muscles for the arms etc.

Depending on how you want to go about structure, develop the limbs as cylinders, and then attach the corresponding muscle masses. Note that I use “masses” rather than individual muscles because for artists we only cover surface anatomy.

Additionally: reference material to use: Michael Hampton’s Design and invention pdf. (As stated already by other user).

I didnt make much since i had to entertain myself one way or another since i have no internet for 4 DAMN DAYS

#

This is the last thing i was trying to draw before giving up because i couldnt entertain myself any further

#

I will continue later tonight but goddamn i need some entertainment

(just noticed it just now actually)

I think your issue begins when you start to develop the clavicle region. Especially when viewing from a higher angle.

Your most recent image has error of course, the egg for the rib cage is too small and doesn’t follow the viewers eye.

But don’t get me wrong you’re on a good track, you just have to hammer out the perspective and how the shape of the egg changes.

Here’s my attempt to elaborate on what I think your minor issue is with the top

random whale
#

Ill take note of it

#

@alpine arch if im gonna be honest, i dont know how to do the egg the way i want it to be, sometimes it would be too big and sometimes it would be too small and skinny

alpine arch

ok so just stick with boxes for now, but I think in that case;

You should actually just look up proportions of the figure, this may help you eventually break into eggs for the rib cage etc but basically the rib cage is 2 head units wide (for male, 1 1/2 for female but just proportionally smaller than the pelvis) and the rib cages are both approx 2 head units tall.

Hope this helps

You're also just not drawing how the pec muscle goes over the arm

#

Specially in your first set of photos

#

It makes the arm looks hinged like a door

Yaa I agree with everything you've pointed out as well :3

Ohhh nooo my blurb was for OP not you!! Your drawings are good !!

#

I think it auto @'s you when I use the remix feature or something sorry for tha confusion

alpine arch
#

Haha well alls good and you’re right about the pec overlap. I’ve noticed a lot of ppl starting out in anatomy don’t draw the insertion and it ends up having the form fall flat. Perhaps OP could start doing that as well? I initially thought the issue came from the top of the shoulder region but it might just be that as well

Yes yes both can be improved

random whale
#

I think this is the best i could go wit the egg

random whale
#

I have all the time in the world and i spent it on literally nothing

#

I gotta be a bit productive with my time

#

@alpine arch also is it weird that i never needed the egg or the box to draw the torso? I only did the egg because i wanted to be a bit different- as for the box, i only did it because i wanted to learn perspective since people said boxes are good learning curves for perspectives

#

Nevermind i actually needed the egg 🥀🥀🥀

Have you been eyeballing all this time?

You NEED the boxes and the eggs to develop perspective and to be able to construct from no reference (and helps when drawing a reference to understand more of the anatomy).

It’s also something to note that the box isn’t supposed to represent ALL of the rib cage, it’s supposed to be there as a placeholder for the perspective and tilt of the rib cage, same thing goes for the pelvis, you use a smaller squashed box for the pelvis but it’s not meant to act as a mass itself.

How about just elongated ovals? Helps a lot with gesture

Or you can just draw mass out of thin air until it look right
