Working on a new art project for class, and it made me realize I suck at interpreting colors and thinking outside the box. My reference shoes are plain black but i dont know how to bring out more vibrancy and color. Trying purple first, seeing what works. Tips are appreciated!

Working on a new art...
Its a mostly warm toned image. So the black looks more dark brown ehile the white looks more beige. Dont be afraid to mix/overlap different colors since nothing is perfectly one color

I dont know why I didn’t think of brown! I knew it had warmer tones but I felt like the the colors are really muddy any time they’re mixed on black paper. quite the learning curve

On the bottom shoe, the section near the flower just isn’t sitting well with me. I can’t seem to get the highlights well, and the colors are off

if your going for realism i think u forgot to add dark enough shadows on the bottom part of the shoe , maybe take a break and come back later so your eyes are fresh again

Yeah it’s super hard to see on my reference photo, which is why I switched gears to the laces. I tried increasing the saturation in the photo but that didnt help honestly 😭

Well i started like the first week in february, so quite a while. About a month and a half i’d say, way too long for my liking 💀
especially since it’s a 12x18 with colored pencil it’s taking a really long time

What colouring pencils are you using
Yes it is, i use prismacolors, 36 set
My teacher did give us a 12 set verithin version, but they’re pretty crappy, wouldn’t recommend. If you don’t have any i’d start with a 12 or 24 set
