#Anatomy and Proportions help

This is what I did actually last night how’s this?
So here’s what I have, I decided to redraw the pose and saw the anatomy I mistaken made
It’s good that you understand the concept of Contrappasto.
Look how in the image, the left side doesn’t flare out like how you drew.
Sorry, I’m on mobile, but you get the idea
i think the torso itself is facing the wrong direction. i’d turn it at a 3/4 angle, the torso looks too front-facing
mhm you think so?
Hey! so im definitely no professional but thought i could lend a hand anyways! so basically i think the neck and shoulders are a bit round if that makes sense? i think u could make the neck straight and not necessarily connected to the shoulder
and also i think the armpit area looks a bit awkward, id try curving it a bit outwards instead of inwards. Also, the hip area could be more defined aswell! AGAIN not professional advice so im soso sorry if this isnt good advice or the advice u were looking for
i also drew a quick sketch of the model aswell, wasnt sure if u were gonna add the arm warmer or not based off ur sketch so i made a boxy arm
mhm, so I did everything right just messed up the torso a bit? Yea that part confuses me
Sometimes I get the torsos in bad postions
This is what I got idk if you need it anymore
I think what’s throwing you off is that the upper and lower torso can move in different directions, here the upper body is slightly facing the right while the lower torso faces had on, so the abdomen area will bend and curve accordingly since it is the connector
The length of the forearm matches with the end of the rib cage
The body has a lot of structure and I can see that you’ve added a rib cage and a pelvis however when translated into lineart everything is smooth and you have a lot of sharp edges that do not appear in the human body in this way
It’s important to understand the form of the human body and break them into 3d shapes
Make sure to always question why, where, and you add lines/ shapes to the figure
I think you were misguided by the pants so the legs you have drawn are too straight and the place where you’ve placed the pelvis is too low, in your latest edit you red lined the pelvis more accurately but then proceeded to lineart the pelvis much lower why exactly?
Also I see that you like to make the lines very crisp at a very developing stage in the piece, I would recommend against this as you can lose the flow in the piece which contributes to a stiff figure
Also with PERSPECTIVE I cannot emphasize how important it is to know how to draw shapes like cylinders and boxes in different perspectives to help form the human figure make sure you incorporate studying what form is, don’t just do it try to understand why it is being done
That’s my two cents. I’m also not a professional so take what I say with a grain of salt
Also looking back I forgot to add the latismus dorsi behind her left breast I'm too lazy to add it in so imma just say it
Oh yeah that's another thing the bigger the chest the more it sags cause of gravity, they also fall on the torso like tear drops, no excessive curvature
mhm I see… it seems I struggle with it every time when I start drawing poses or anything else really. What can I do to try to understand shapes more in depth?
Honestly just draw 3d shapes, like a cube or cylinders in different angles, you can find 3d models online but don't just draw to draw, draw to understand how the shape distorts depending on the perspective that's how u can effectively study
Also human anatomy has a lot of proportions to one another so the size of different muscles, the shape of bones etc.
There are many free resources online so just search up "human anatomy drawing references" I'm sure there are some pdfs out there
Again youtube is a free resource, having people explain things "live" is really helpful for learning imo so make use of it!
Mhm so just pratice shapes and gesture drawing
Well i hope u don't take it as "if i just do this, I'll get better" study without understanding is wasted time
No I know
Oh okay great!
Anyways here’s what I done,
I followed your references and looked up some tutorials. Here’s what I done, I’m now going to draw the actual character. The character I’m going to draw is someone’s OC (character created by Plants10000) anyways here’s the wip. Can I also have some help with drawing the clothing, I’m not that good at drawing clothes
I fixed it
You did pretty good. However for the hips and chest it looks like you just focused on the outline and not the structure underneath. Something for the hips i and many others do is basically draw underwear before putting any clothes on top. You also have each part of the arm being very cylindrical. But if you look at the ref, you can see that certain parts are thicker than others. I could continue but i dont want to overload you with stuff to work on all at once lol
Oh some people came and said a lot of these things. Oops
