I’ve been stuck on this commission for days now and I desperately need help :’)
I’m having trouble with the colors, values and composition. And the lighting…. All of it just looks off and idk what to do about it :’)
Do I need to vary the colors more do I need to adjust the values?? Why do they look like stone, I’ve tried adding subsurface scattering but it’s not enough?? And why is the white angel’s neck so weird :’)
I’d highly appreciate if someone can help me out :’)

Hi!! Your use of color and bounce-light is actually very good!! I think you need to bring the light down

#

on the man with the brown hair.

#

Bring the warmth down into his hair a little bit more on the left side. The hair is large and thick and way so it would come forward again after being put behind his hear. You actually have some cool highlights in the exact place warm light would be reflecting off of on that side!! There would also be a slight warm light along the left side of his color bone because the light would be reflecting there as well

I edited up top with more detail^^

#

Also the necks may look odd to you because the anatomy is slightly off. Both their necks are too long. Their traps would come up higher on both of them and that would fix your problem

Don’t be afraid to use references

#

These are for the more part the correct angles and anatomy placements of your piece

The head on the guy in the left with the dark hair should be slightly lowered for the layout of the piece and the shoulders raised up for the anotomy closer to the head. He is looking down. The refenrce I have of the man looking down and forward facing shows where the shoulders are in relative to a downfacing head.

The lighting by the hair is better, But there needs to be a bit more and dont forget to put some on the neck/colarbone on the left side

#

The red is what needs to be moved

#

The yellow is where the light should exist more

#

When your done tih that and everything is placed you could then add a side bounce light on the dark angels right side coming from the white angels halo

#

it would help seperate them further

Is this better? :DD
I didnt want to bring his shoulders up like in this image since the reference my client gave me had a very like standing straight up kind of vibe for both of their poses so I feel like bringing his shoulders up like that wouldn’t give the right thing my client? If u get what I mean :’)

#

But I do really appreciate your help!! Like you’ve seriously saved me, thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏

YES IT WORKS!! The light does a great job of bringing your piece more life and movement as well as separating the characters! You bringing the shoulders up just slightly also did wonders!! Your piece is beautiful!! If you ever need help feel free to hit me up here or on instagram @xena.griffinsartshop @xena.griffin or be email [email protected]
