#Any critiques? Specifically with the hair

looks really busy. The readability of this piece is going to depend heavily on how you render the hair and lighting situation.
how would you recommend structuring it then?
the plan was to put most of the detail in the hair while putting less onto the face, so that it becomes the focal point
Im not sure thats a good idea. There is so much hair, where would the focal point be?
the face
oh I think I misinterpreted. The face is the focal point but you want it to be less detailed?
yep
like in this piece by mika pikazo theres a lot of detail everywhere except the face
thats what i was going for
oooh i gotcha.
ciborg earlier said that the body could use some more structure but im wondering what they meant by that
Maybe that there is no clearly defined torso?
I can kinda see it but it gets lost in the hair lines
Line thickness would help with that too
That might help. Like less hair around the face and clavicle/sternum area
thicker lines are usually closer to the camera and thin as they get further to show depth. But you may want thicker lines around the focal point and parts of the hair that swoop in close to the camera.
That is if you want to keep the line art.
You need to learn anatomy. Draw the underlying structure and not just what you imagine for tiny individual shapes. Proko has a great series on youtube. Yes its a long series but i promise it is worth it regardless of style. Learn it the way he is teaching it and later work on adapting it to the style you want. Will make a world of a difference
Love the concept with the hair! As someone said earlier, the figure is lacking a bit of structure. I would recommend starting with simple shapes (circles, triangles, squares) and then building off of them to build the figure of your piece. Right now, It looks like you are paying attention to the smaller shapes, such as individual hair strands, instead of the bigger picture (ex: the entire mass of hair, or the face shape). Keep up the good work!
i started with this sketch before starting the hair
i took a pose from posemaniacs and messed around with it
and drew what i thought would be the hairline
and did cleanup in the end
Did you trace the pose? Out of curiosity
no
Yeah
