You need to refine the sketch. Never jump from messy loose sketch to lineart. Gradually refine it to the point where youd basically be tracing the sketch

Make it more specific and not just seeking lines. Define precisely where you want the lines to go. Doesnt need to be super hyper detailed. Some people doing semi realistic still simplify a lot of things. But definitely refine the sketch so you know exactly where to put the lineart. I see far too many times where people jump from really loose messy sketch to lineart and say they hate the lineart and dont know how this happened because they liked their sketch. Its because they never refined their sketch. It needs to be done in phases and not all at once
