Im having issues on starting a drawing, I'll try to start, look at it and not like it, and than promptly give up. I don't think any of my work is good, and although I've got bright ideas and some kind of hope for the future I just cant see it being done with the way I do things. Hello
Just recovering from art block my slef
Try relearning some art stuff like anotomy or lighting casue that help me gain back my "fun ness of art"(hope it make sense)
How do I "relearn" though?
Rewarch some videos try some online classes ect
Hey man so if you think you have some great ideas but give up because you can draw it, it’s because you’re not familiar with what you’re drawing.
Drawing from imagination is fun and personally what I do a lot, but give yourself knowledge on what you’re drawing.
I forced myself to learn how to draw the human form and faces from angles by watching other people and their process, daily practice, and trying new things that’ll help me
I think this is more of an issue from outside of art, I have horrible self esteem and seeing people of younger age do 100x better than me really discourages me
I really feel like just quitting altogether because I’m not good enough.
I want to be able to be similar to the work I aspire to and I know that takes time but I hate how I’m not even a millionth there
you could try to avoid the social media aspect of art and focus solely on improving.
All artist think alike. You’re not alone but you have to remember to have fun
But I don’t have fun I’m too busy thinking about how shit my art is.
I’m 20 struggling to find my style and trying to catch up to pros that started earlier or later than me
you dont enjoy the process of making the art?
I don’t know.
I can’t remember
When it’s something I like and it’s working out yeah
Don’t compare yourself it’s your journey
But that’s almost never
My aspirations are high but I do little to nothing to reach them.
I can’t draw everything I want so I just practice, sleep, and try again tmrw
I’m telling you, all artist think alike
My sister is the same exact way
You’re not at the level you want to be at but you’re at a point where you can work towards your goal
My goal is quite high.
Dude
Try breaking it down into smaller more achievable goals. You'll feel better after accomplishing each sub goal
I want my painting to be framed in a museum, but I can’t have that yet so I have to keep practicing
Don’t let your mind control your process, let your hand and knowledge do the work
You just have to keep doing it
I just can’t accept anything, and I’m too ignorant. I think it leads more into my mental problems than my art.
I’m the same way
But it won’t help if I sit on my ass pondering about the future of my art career
I don’t know where to start
It was going swell
I saw improvement and now I’ve hit a ditch where nothing changes
Start by identifying what you like and don't like about your art, but don't be emotional about it and be like everything sucks. Try and be objective and figure out what exactly should be improved first
It's gonna hurt but if you do it properly, you'll see improvement
Well… that’s kinda hard for me… does anyone wanna gander?
We can help you identify your core weakness if you really can't tell
But the big trap is seeing your weaknesses and just falling into despair after looking at all of it
You gotta push on afterwards, I know it's tough
This is my favorite piece, ironically it’s unfinished because I felt like I would only make it worse.
Sure thanks for sharing
For one thing, I see an emphasis on shapes but not so much on volume
the composition is nice, it clearly leads my eyes towards the ceiling and the monsters face
Yeah perspective is not bad
What exactly does that mean?
As in, you're not thinking enough about the depth of the forms
You're thinking in 2d compared to 3d
oh
yeah I guess so
an issue I have is
bodies
any body
I cant draw bodies for shisa
There's unconfident lines as well
?
Like in general there is a bit of wobbliness which often comes from doing line art too slow
oh.
So okay since this is just an example I won't go through everything but we've covered forms and line confidence
Now you have 2 goals that are a bit better defined
Compared to if you just think u need to make my art not suck
The goal I aim for influences alot of how my work should be drawn
it's like im aiming for its style
Style comes after fundementals usually
^^
And is also pretty subjective
I kinda dont do that.
the worst part is that its kinda... not easy? im kinda going for a hard style.
Well you can do both together but it can get overwhelming
I never really learnt hyperrealism but I know the basics of how realism works
The inspiration/influence, is Studio Trigger, especially their previous work, Gurren Lagann.
Oh i love gurren lagann
But thats the issue for me.
Gurren Lagann' style is so complex and fluid that it's hard?
Well.
I mean
Something about Trigger gives me "polygonal" style feeling.
Which I try to acomplish my my drawings by using as little curves ass possible.
Kinda like Panty and Stocking.
Yea I can see that influence
The issue with trying to replicate a style without fundementals is that you might not be able to understand why or how things are stylised
For instance on my recent drawing, Miku's shoulder is quite literally only like 5 lines.
I try to create my own style whilst trying to be like trigger.
another influence is Tatsuki Fujimoto.
IN GENERAL
But see, if you are only practicing a polygonal look, you will not hv a chance to practice curves
I focus too much on how things look than how they are
You need a more, uh, holistic approach
Idk what that word even means.
So than...
Like for example if I play music, I shouldn't limit myself to 1 genre
Bcs that genre will only give me the opportunity to practice certain aspects of music more than others
Same for art, if you only practice 1 style you're only going to be able to draw that one style
If you want that then sure
But it gets pretty boring
I also just like, cant draw by myself though. I always need something to go off of.
I cant draw a body without something showing me how.
But I cant do it myself.
That's alright if you need references
But again, not being able to draw without them indicates that your fundementals are still lacking in some way
Now back to art block, if you're getting satisfaction only by reaching your own standards, you have to adjust your standards
Not lower them but make them more achievable
Having a goal like I need to draw better is never going to be satisfying because you'll always change what better means
than what?
Make targeted, well defined goals
Like, I need to improve my knowledge of facial anatomy
Or, Im going to practice line quality until it's not shaky
but I dont wanna study
Well you still have to put in the work if your goals are so high
Do you want to do it or not?
I can't help you with that
Study
Well.
I'm sorry but we're literally just text on a screen. We can't solve that kind of stuff
Yeah I dont expect you guys too, thanks for the advice.
I'
I'll see if theres anything I can study on.
There’s always something to study
Artist who have taught classes or made books, still study and have a routine they can follow when they need it
When you wake up you’ll have something new that you learned from the day before, and even you’ll be able to draw something you couldn’t get the grasp of
If you can’t trust your ability to learn and keep trying, then art will most likely just be a hobby to you
You don’t have to treat it like a competitive sport, it’s supposed to be fun
Don’t get caught up in your feelings about your standards, look forward to making something new atleast
It's okay to just have it as a hobby too but you have to decide if that's what you want
I play guitar, that's my hobby and I don't expect anything out of it beyond just enjoying it for myself. I'm probably never going to be a pro and I'm okay with that
Please give yourself time too
Mhm professionals have drawn for decades
It won’t happen overnight or right away after finding a new approach, just give it time
