Are you referencing?

pallid meteor
#

I use references yes

#

I just have no idea why you asking I mean if you know what the problem is just let me know

#

I cant really find reference with exact same pose but like yeah i looked at how kimonos fold and stuff

#

Just got no idea why it looks so i dont know flat sort of.May it be because of that it dosent curve in perspective or something? I dont know

#

It looks flat to me

#

But like why it even looks flat if thats how light should bend there i have no idea

Im asking because you could either be not referencing or referencing wrong. Find photos of similar loosness of fabrics, and if its based on a real type of clothing, look up the item.

It requires a little bit of critical thinking to do indirect referencing. Look for trends, patterns often appearing in the folds of the references of the clothing and apply it to your work.

Because rn there isnt any folds that im seeing within the structure of the clothing at all. The light wouldnt bounce off the fabric like paper. Cloth has a lot of dimension to it.

Overall it looks flat because theres no structure/form to your fabric

#

Did that already

#

So you say it looks flat because it dosent got any folds in it yet?

#

I mean i had in plan to put them down but it still seemed to me quite flat

#

the way light breaks here is done right tho but looks flatter so something is probably off

#

But typical advice about searching more references really wont help. And absolutely not when thats something i already do.Its worst kind of advice for someone who does it throughout whole drawing and asks for help because there is something that cant be figured out.Dont tell me i would be able to pull at least this off without any refferences like cmon

#

If i would need more references and would knew i can figure it out i would be on Pinterest. Not here

#

Only situation most of artists come to this help section is because they cant figure something out from references. If references would be anwser to everything,i would be picaso by now in terms of how many i already seen.I see this advice useful maybe for someone who draws like not even a year or someone that somehow forgot about references but believe me.Thats not something most of artists who ask here for help would forget about

#

Like ok picture this.Imagine asking art teacher about how to draw head and rather explaining you about methods how to draw head he will tell you just to use references

#

Yeah sorry its just frustrating to recieve this anwser most of the time

Oml chill tf out dude. 2 months ago we went thru this and u got nothing out of it because you took a hostile stance on everything. And even now when im saying you might be referencing wrong you send a block of text venting.

Im once again stepping away from this. Ive told you in the past how to reference and once again now. It takes practice to know how to actually reference in a way thatll he beneficial. But if it isnt helping then it falls back onto your fundamentals not being well established as a main one is light and shadow.

I hope you find someone that can help you but looks like i cannot in this case

pallid meteor

Well that explains why you gave me literally same advice than.Look,i asked here for help couple of times and surprise surprise, most of the times actually recieved useful tips if there was any feedback and cooperation from other side. But if the other side was just talking throught whatever about using references etc rather giving actual help than can you guess what happend? Yeah,no help

#

Matter of fact the problem i asked for last time wasnt solved by references but by actually understanding process of cel shading

#

Everyone from there kept telling me about how i should learn realism whatever althought i didnt just understood where the light cuts off.You know what helped? 50 seconds of fricking video where there was a showcase of it,process and explanation.Thats it.No references, nothing

Why do you think youre exempt from this? Using references helps build your visual library. And it takes time to build it. And when i say time i dont mean 5 minutes. Sometimes it takes literal years to be able to draw it from imagination. Youve given it two months as a beginner. You gotta work more for it

pallid meteor
#

Those 50 seconds thaught me more than 100 references I went throught and if i would listen to this advice,i would only waste hours away.So as I said last time i say it again.I know when reference will help and when not and this is situation when i really cant find reference that will help

Ok

pallid meteor
# echo socket Why do you think youre exempt from this? Using references helps build your visua...

I draw for 3 years man i think i know that it takes time no need to explain it.Matter of fact,i spent longer time before studying folds and blah blah blah this is just one problem here that i cannot see and i was HOPING that yeah somebody might see that problem and tell me what it is than but rather than that i hear about those references again.Like god damn its just annoying to hear that word because of those arguments

#

What is quite funny is that i remember how people kept telling me about how i dont know how light works and to show proof and other sh*t even when i just didnt knew how the hell cel shading works which is different style of normal shading.Good thing i didnt tried to proove anything tho I at least had good laugh at the end for the sake of wasted time

echo socket
#

Wow three whole years? Well you must know more than meCynoWheeze

pallid meteor
#

All I said is that i use references daily

#

Do you really think the advice about reference helps someone who uses them daily? Use some critical thinking

#

Go to art teacher and ask for advice and i can bet that until it wont be something where reference is esential like body posture or sizing whatever, that the same art teacher will give actual advice rather than saying use references

pallid meteor
#

But whatever

echo socket
#

We do give more. You just fixate on the references part. Also ive drawn for 12.

pallid meteor
#

What you give more exactly?

#

All i heard so far was use references

#

Did.Throughout whole process

#

And i literally skip to them all the time when i am not sure

#

So i wonder how that advice should work now if it dosent work this way.Or yeah I study reference wrong....Thats like saying to begiiner that his drawing looks like shit even tho he got references

#

You draw 12 years so for you references are enough.Guess what, for someone that still learns its really not

#

If I would be drawing 12 years of course i would understand sh*t from references like thats no surprise. Its same like until I understood how clothing actually folds i wasnt able to pull it off till than. Now i get it from reference with each new fabric

#

I talk about outline btw not folds really

#

Nevermind there is no help here so I will leave now

#

But yeah i was right even last time and everyone kept arguing althghout i clearly understand how it works now so probably that will happen again

Broski get better at communicating your needs then if last time 10+ people misunderstood you. You need to say your goals, what youve tried, and what havent worked. If you give little information, people are gonna run with what they have. Dial the hostility back and maybe people are more incline to not fight with you

I ask questions for a reason.
