you could use some blue/purple tones in the shadows to create a greater sense of contrast?
that doesn't have anything to do with contrast, blue and purple tones in the shadows are the reflections of the sky hitting the ground (bounce light) usually in outdoor scenarios. Unless the sky is not a factor in the piece it's not necessary for that. It's awesome that you know about using blue/purple tones though! many artists don't!
perhaps you can make her look towards the light so it gives that sense of mystery to make the viewer think "what might she be looking at? what could that light be?". The reason I am saying this is because the light seems to be created by something due to its 'harshness' or harsh lighting. Could be an idea?
I think maybe define her hair more and shade individual strands rather than trapezoids of hair with more similiar sensitivity and delicateness as the bubble
I think the nose is too far to the left + you could define it more with rendering, also I think the mouth is too small but it could just be your art style not sure
I think go with your style, i said the above because i felt the realism of the bubble should be matched by realistic, fine hair, especial that has highlights in the luminescent light, but it’s really your style and decisions
Hey! I hope you don't mind that I painted over.
First I wanna say this is a beautiful piece. You've very clearly got a great sense of color and design.
The changes I made are just the things that stuck out to me that could be done differently, so feel free to take them with a grain of salt.
- Fixed some anatomical/perspective errors. Mainly in the far shoulder being too wide. Can show the redline anatomy if you don't see it. I also slightly adjusted the facial structure to be a bit more balanced.
- **Removed information from the shadow side. ** Ideally you want to keep information rich in either the light or dark side, not both. In this case it felt best to highlight the light side so I compressed the darks to serve as a "rest" area for the eye.
- Adjusted the composotional elements to be a bit more dynamic The bubbles now create a dynamic lines through the focal point to bring it back to the eyes and through. Starts at the top right and travels down and to the left. Also tried to vary up their size and position a bit more.
- Fixed some of the cast shadows to better reflect the form Some of the shadows didnt seem entirely correct, so I adjusted to what seemed more reasonable in my opinion
- Added some SSS in the nose and ear Small thing and didnt do it much justice but adds a bit of life to the character.
Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, going to note this down and work to improve it after work 🙏
Definitely feel this. I was planning on running a low key value scheme but somehow halfway through I forgot and spread detail equally between shaded and lit areas 😭
i disagree i like the shoulders wider because it makes her look stronger and bigger boned
it’s really up to you to decide
Also I want to say your art truly is striking and stylish, I don’t mean my criticisms tone jarring, I just felt there was dissonance between the contrasting qualities of the features that are in the same composition
