I'm trying to do this piece with a guy bending slightly to light his cigarette on a lighter but cannot for the life of me understand the perspective or how the clothes should sit, I've been looking at this for like 3 days.

your issue lies mainly in the arms. theyre not foreshortened enough. as for clothes, yeah plz send refs of what youre looking for

if your changing the perspective, I would reccomend showing the neck

I usally redraw people's art, to find any possiblities for adjustments

Also play with shadows

I want it to be a suit, like shirt and jacket but I've never worn one or seen many people in them so idk how they lay or crease yknow?

Redrawing I'm absolutely fine with so no worries! Yeah the red is someone else who's holding a lighter. I'm not super great at drawing people in general especially faces so the features could definitely be an issue!

Foreshortening drives me insane, it's also not a perspective I've seen alot but that's the issue when you have a specific thing in mind I guess? The clothes I wanted to be a suit, kinda like a slenderman character, gaunt, creepy, tall and in a suit aha
