#how to improve lineart

Personally, I think the lines are too thick.I would recommend making them thinner
It's mainly the consistency you randomly have Is the lawnings change size There is really no consistency
i used to use 1 single thickness for all lines but that looked way too flat so now i use 10px for clothing, 5 for skin and bandages etc. and 2-3 for detailing
ill try lowering the clothing lines thickness to 7 and see how that works
besides that would you say its in a state where i can start practicing colors?
first things first, make your canvas size bigger. It will make it look less pixalated
what size would you recommend?
Somewhere in 2000's depending on if you want a square etc it can change but generally put it above 2000
pixels
._.
Huh, why is it pixelated then
This is how mine looks in 2000, and also why I'm confused
Did you perhaps screenshot it instead of exporting it?
I don't get this lol
Lmaoo, screen shoting makes it less quality and alot pixelated haha. Nevermind then
why did i think that was ok lol
Btw have you ever heard of the phrase thick lines on the outside thin lines on the inside, that's what most people do
The stomach arms and neck have very thin lines on outside and inside which makes it look at bit worse
I think except of thinking of I should use different pixels for clothing, accessory. Except of that think of it as, if I were to make these lines bigger how could I make this look less cluttered.
Not by each peice but by each line , which some times you can make it go thicker to thinner
i have heard of taht but i thought that would make my probelm worse
ill try lining it thinking of it this way next time
thank you!
using a brush with line weight could make it more interesting & easier to vary. also, you don't need to be at a certain level of line art to start practicing colour. if that's what you want to do, do it. just don't forget to keep practicing everything else every now and then. : )
oh god i tried using a weighted brush and the entire drawing came out like a damn optic illusion. every single line wavy with no consistency lol. also ik i could practice color at any level but i wanna take things slow and learn everything properly. if i rush into coloring without a good sketch/lineart the colors wont looks nice. i enjoy every moment i spend drawing but i also want to improve in a steady manner since im in no rush.
haha, yes you need to practice to learn to use the weighted brush. you don't need different pressure in every line, it's knowing when to put more or less pressure. don't give up on it straight away.
i think your lineart is good enough to start colouring, just don't forget to keep practicing everything else you learned and don't abandon it all to focus only on colour
art isn't really done in neat stages where you learn everything about shapes, then lineart, then colour, then shading. of course you can do studies on them, but as you practice, you're always learning a bit of everything all the time
i probably should practice a bunch of things but i just get overwhelmed so easily lol. btw, how do i make a coloring layer?
by doing a full piece, that is practice. just doing art is practice : )
? just a new raster layer, put it underneath the lineart
no shot its actually that simple i have been looking for tutorials for like a week
does it have to be a special type of layer ?
not at all
you can play around with blending layers on top, after flat colours for shading and lighting
The purpose of it is to show what is the important part and what is less important. The general silhouette, important details and major shapes getting thicker lines while minor shapes and details get thinner lines. They also dont need to be so drastically different. Just enough for people to identify what is the focal point in the design. Btw the face especially the eyes get the thicker lines because thats oftentimes where people want to have the audience look more often. The nose doesnt usually need very thick lines tho
drawing the viewers attention with darker lines makes sense. ill try giving the face some more diverse line weight on my next drawing and use lower range of thickness in lines. the hair still looks pretty bland tho which im working on. thank you!
I do feel that for the hair you’re putting too much detail into it as well as lines are too thick
im guessing the hair will get most of the details from coloring and rendering instead of lineart? the thicker lines were supposed to draw a bit more attention there
I wouldn't know I just kind of wing it on colors
