Hey, so I recently got into art and have been watching tutorials on youtube about 'studying art' which is apparently the way of actually getting better.

Now, I am a bit confused about what this actually means because they are incredibly vague about it, usually just saying something like 'get a reference and learn from that' or 'pick something and only learn that until you're good at it'

is 'studying art' supposed to be kind of non-specific? im just not sure if there are rules to it im supposed to be following, or if it is really as simple as finding references, kind of seeing how they draw, maybe copy it to understand, wtv

@pearl robin Honestly, studying art can mean a lot of things. There's not really many rules to it. If you want to learn things like realism and human anatomy, I recommend studying real photos of people and breaking it down into basic 3d shapes. If you want to study an art style (Like from a specific manga or comic), then look up tutorials on how to draw in a certain way, or learn how I did by simply trying to copy their drawings, and paying attention to how they stylized certain things. DM me, I could really help you out (I want to learn to teach drawings lol)

Heyyy! If I were you, I would set what your big goal is. Mine when I was learning was how to draw the human body "better"... Whatever that means lol.

Eventually, it'll lead you to the art fundamentals. You'll probably apply what you need to learn how to draw people more effectively, but the fundamentals are what help you build your core drawing skills.

Eventually, you'll be exploring more than that if you really want to.

Like color, value, form, shapes, etc. That can be applied to various art. Like Animals, architecture, landscapes, mecha, concept art, cubism, etc. etc. etc.
