#struggle drawing girls

So, I can draw guys really well and even developed my own style with them. But when it comes to girls, the eyes and face shape and etc look so weird and like I’m back at beginner level. I have tried tracing other artists work of girls and women fanart, and I can copy it just fine. But when I try to copy their style again in a pose I haven’t seen them draw in particular, it again looks weird for me. I have tried to fix the eyes and face shapes but drawing girls have not been my strong suit at all in my years of drawing 🫠 I’d love any tips and advice on how to combat this problem, which is ironic since I’m a girl myself

#

Head shape or anatomy itself??

flint tree
#

Okay I’m not the greatest expert but I’ll say from my experience/examples

#

I’ve studied realism before too so it doesn’t make sense to me that girls I struggle with

#

The shape should be more like an hourglass - usually you can draw a line c curve or s curve into the pose you’d like, and you build off from that - studying the anatomy of a skeleton is helpful too!!

#

For the head shape, the jawline isn’t as thick as a males

#

I’ll pull up some examples one sec

#

So I practiced anatomy but I sttted with the base skeleton

#

The end one

#

Last one*

#

Oh I have tried the anatomy method you just mentioned but it doesn’t work for me 😭 I don’t have a problem with female anatomy it’s just the face stylization
And okay! Thank you

Studying a skeleton is top priority because that’s the human anatomy

#

You can build once you have it

#

Remember that hips are the middle of your drawing!!

#

Okay I’ll try a skeleton

#

Thank you

#

Yw!!

#

Keep practicing them, and try regular head angles

#

Ears aligned with eyes and nose, mouth connected with the cupid bow

#

Yes I know that fact pretty well 😂 I draw guys a lot so I’ve become all too familiar with the golden ratio

#

It’s just girls faces I struggle to stylize regardless of me using all those anatomy tips lol

#

Realism with girls I do pretty well

#

Do you mind if you can send some of your work currently? I can try correcting here

WDYM IT LOOKS GOOD HELP ME

flint tree
#

My digital is a mess

#

But for some reason I can’t seem to get girls to look good when I try to draw them or use my other drawings for reference

#

There’s barely anything I see wrong

#

Actually it looks rly good but

#

I just can’t get girls to look like the actual irl girls I want to draw lol

#

I’d say try softening the chin, make it more curved so it looks more natural + the ear looks a lil off and the hair wouldn’t be tucked into that angle

#

Actually I can’t even draw girls from imagination so there’s that

I guess I could try doing that again

#

I think you should try again - believe in yourself! MacchiStars

#

We’re always in doubt but sometimes we need others to keep us onto the right track, I THINK my dms are always open so I’m always available

#

(I redownloaded discord today so I’m bad w the new settings$

#

You’re good 😭 I just struggle with “cutifying” girls and softening their features made it uglier than those 2 but I guesssss I’ll try again some other time

#

By the way I don’t do digital so I’m so sorry if I’m inexperienced but I am going off my traditional experience ☹️☹️

flint tree
#

Although it looks cool stylized how you did it actually

flint tree
#

Traditional for the win >> 😍😍

Ya my digital is not it I just sent to check LOL

flint tree
#

I do sketches all the time

#

I draw traditionally pretty often

#

Like Rough wips (I think that’s what it’s called?) online

#

Ohhhhh

#

Yeah I’ve tried that too 😭 im just hopeless with stylizing girls but I guess I can try softening features once more

#

Yes try softening it and resend how it’s looking

#

And try working the ear in

flint tree
#

Yup do it in your comfort

Yep! a lot of people say to soften female features which is true but I don’t see it making a difference 🫠

flint tree
#

Hm do you have any photos of your realism?

No im not home where my old sketchbooks are either but I do know the basics of human anatomy, I don’t have issues with the anatomy. It’s just women, and stylizing their faces specifically. I already know the golden ratio rule for faces so no need for another proportions advice

#

Alright good - why don’t you practice realism instead? Styling will come

flint tree
#

I can stylize men it’s just women. Idk if it’ll come since I’ve tried for 2 years but I’ll see 🤷🏻‍♀️

flint tree
#

practice different eyes, shapes, noses, etc

#

I’ve done that for literally all my life before switching to digital

#

Try everything differently

#

And I still do that on paper

#

Ah im Sorry im Not a digital artist I may not be the best to help here 😭😭

#

I’m pretty sure I’ve already mentioned that I often draw on paper more than digital

flint tree
#

Thanks for your help but it’s not anything I don’t already know 😭 it’s just a personal problem so hopefully someone else who was in the same boat as me in the past can see this

flint tree
#

A bit of that at least

flint tree
#

It’s really just a personal issue with women stylization

#

Thanks again for trying to help tho
