#art critique-specifically, shading

your bricks are pretty repetitive, and it looks like you drew them one by one. i dont think using scribble shading for the bark looks that great. also i dont really understand whats happening in the drawing. is that one building? or multiple? and why is there vines going over the windows?
Yeah I drew them one by one…wasn’t rlly sure how else to. Is there a more efficient way?
if you draw horizontal lines, then draw vertical lines for the bricks
basically there was a porch in front of the building which had a sort of veranda and it had vines on it. It’s one building
oh. did you have a reference?
cause it looks weird since the window on the left goes through the porch
basically the veranda was like infront of the windows
yeah I see what you mean
I don’t know how else to show depth though
did you use the perspective points?
I tried at first but I struggled because they were kinda off the page
oh. i would use them next time, even if theyre off the page. itll help a lot with making buildings
maybe use another piece of scratch paper and draw the second line on there?
that’s a good idea, I’ll try that next time
also do you have any recommendations for what I should use for the bark if not scribble shading?
ILL BRB MY CAT SPILLED WATER ON MY KEYBOARD I HAVE TO CLEAN IT
okay im back lol. hopefully my keyboard mostly works? i think for bark you should loosen up, and draw quick, naturally wavy lines
if you know what i mean

this is the tree tutorial i used. it is THE BEST
its really not that hard lol, a lot simpler than it looks
I guess I’m just worried that if the tree is realistic the rest of the piece will look super cartoony lol
Does your line work for bricks overwhelm your buildings? Do they end up looking al wonky and detract from the more interesting architecture you've drawn? The technique for drawing brick walls in this video may just be the answer you've waited for!
yea see now you can draw realistic bricks AND trees
fr gonna be an expert now
thank youuu
yea np!
I’m in your walls
i was gonna say something but then realised 1. im in a public server and 2. youre NOT the person i thought you were 😭
