Hello!

Help me critique my art please! I don’t know if his face looks weird or not, and I try coloring new style like a watercolor style by not blended it and just leave the stroke but ended up looking uninteresting imo. Also, I want him to be loved at first sight too! I want my sketch to look better as well!

Apologies for my English and thank you in advance! EM_pray

For me the sketch and the line is really good and smooth, you can probably play on the thickness(?) of the line to create more volume, otherwise I find the sketch/line well :)

For the colors, the problem is the use of blend value and hard value in the same time. Exemple, the in line of the hair is really dark and marked and in opposition, the hair color is really blended. Also, I think the skin lacks value, the lips, the nose, the neck etc, in general the color is pretty flat.

For finish, I think you should detail the eyes more. He look a bit soulless and not empathetic, maybe it is just me but I think that. The eyes are the reflection of the soul so if you want your character to be liked his eyes should be more "alive".

(Maybe its just your art style and the part on the eyes is useless)

But he looks very nice I love his face, even if he doesn't have the head of the "good guy" MacchiStars

The main issue seems to be the lack of value that makes everything look flat and gray

Add more light and shadows , everything else looks good to me just make the hairline a little straight

Sorry for my late response, still doesn’t use to Discord notifications yet 😭 And OMG! I didn’t expect to get such high quality critiques from a good artist like you before, I’m really appreciated!!

I was trying to use new coloring style with blend value, but you see, my habit always put hard brush onto the art so it’s really hard to control myself EM_Cry

And yes, my concept is, he has soulless eyes because it looks cool
If I finish him, I plan to giveaway this guy too!

Again, thank you so much!!

You can also add in lighting to give the face more definition, like this in progress art i'm making here

I think it may be the shading?? Idk if I'm qualified enough to talk about this but you use black to shade the face which can make it look duller and less popping. Krepuu's work uses a pink(?) or red(?) colour to shade the character's face, which makes it seem more colourful and pop more.

Again I'm not exactly a professional so I don't really know that much about what I'm talking about here. But to what I see compared to krepuu's work, that might be the case. Take this suggestion what you will. You don't have to incorporate what I've said because I might be wrong and it might be too late of a stage to change the shading.

Amazing art work though!! Love it!
