first of all WOW!
second, try and make the cloth seem more defined.
Do you mean by being more defined, is having more characteristics to the clothing?
It looks a bit blurry, did you use a blending tool with the shading or coloring?
yeah it is intended, but I went overboard. I'm trying to learn WLOP style impressionist-esque technique of painting while maintaining clarity. But yeah I failed at that part
Atm I'm trying to learn compositio, maybe it'll fix my probs
thanks for the help
She's looking into nothing try to give her a personality , who is she looking at what emotions is she feeling . You gotta take all that into consideration
I did some changes which I think makes it look more interesting
- I made her look straight at the viewer so that she's able to interact with the viewer
- I gave her a smile to show emotions and what she might be feeling
- I made the head smaller to make the proportions more realistic
- I noticed that the light is not interacting with the hair the same way it is with the rest of the character so I brighten up the hair according to the light source
- Did a little liquify to change overall proportions
I really loved the way you did the shading of the gold jewellery and the clothes btw
i think the gaze fixed a lot
tbh I like it how it is imo, but regarding Ur first point, it looks like she's looking at or talking to the cameraman which is honestly it's own level of realism, as if he's drawing someone in person. capturing the exact moment.
you could add something to it to make it a bit more obvious but that's the sence I get from it.
also damn!
I'll take everything you said, thank you!!
Looks much better, it has more character
In the end, my main issue is my character lacks "character"
Thank you everyone, I'll apply everything in my next work
What I like to do before drawing is create a story in my head about the character I'm drawing , I think about what she's doing , the emotions she's feeling ,the overall vibe I wanna go for and then draw accordingly . If you go into drawing without even knowing what you're trying to express with your drawing ofcourse it'll have no character.
The main thing you should be focusing on that and the facial proportions because everything else looks pretty good to me
doing portrait studies will help you improve on both of those things simultaneously
