I'm well aware that I have a lot of room for improvement, I've just never been told what specifically I should be working on. The one weakness I am aware of is that I know next to nothing about shading, I mean here I more or less just did whatever without really knowing how to approach it. Note I'm not saying that's my only shortcoming or the only thing I'd like advice on, just that's the only thing I'm aware of.

this is great! one thing i'd change though is the placing of the facial features. while it's really close to perfect they're a litle outa place

Like ailema said, you need to start building a strict grid on where the facial features are supposed to be, and if I were you I'd look into practising the nose, personally since I'm a realism (ish) artist I use the nose as the guideline for everything else on the face, or else the nose and mouth would be seperated, and out of place.

I suggest using the looming method (atleast that's what I think it's called) cos I use a variation of that myself.

Also if u wanna improve at drawing a specific part of the face, isolate it and spam draw it, you can't believe the amount of ppl that draw an entire portrait to practice the nose or the eye...

here's a pic that should help you with facial proportions

#

you could also move onto studying body proportions and anatomy, I think that would help you understand the general shape of things a bit more
