Is this supposed to be fog or after sunset? What is the person doing?
It's a little hard to know what advice to give but I would say try pushing and exaggerating the colors and shapes. Make something that is over the top "wrong". Then start to pull and pare it back bit at a time.
The other suggestion would be to compliment and contrast color/value with the subject. If you're using dark blue/black try lighting the sky on fire with a powerful sunrise. If you want a gloomy atmosphere try making the clothes more vibrant.
for future ref, ALWAYS plan out ur bg while sketching out the figure too. itll prevent u from getting lost when its time to add a bg. if u color the bg first its easier to make the figure match the bg lighting than the other way around
if u dont know how at first, with a layer underneath just plan out all the colros on the layer. its like thumbmailing but for colors
My inital idea was to get that girl being on top of a lil river w a LOT OF FOG.
Gotta draw the foreground then. Add fog in front of her and have her be in the water
here's what I came up with, note that I don't do digital art, this was done on a free app on my phone and my finger lol.
layers.
that's water at the front btw, couldn't figure out how to make the edges pop out.
k imma go try and catch up on the sleep I've lost lol, teg me if u need anything.
