#I CANT DRAW EYES

start with a circle and wrap the eyelids around it. is what other people say. personally i dont understand it and it doesnt help me much but it seems to help everyone else lol
First of all, learn how to draw an eye.
Not an anime eye.
Not some flat symbol that merely passes as an eye.
An actual eye as it exists in 3d space. Learn how to draw it at various angles. Learn the various anatomical parts and how they interact with each other. Learn how much of the iris is visible and in what proportion. Learn the fact that the eyelids have thickness and how the forms flow into the muscles around the opening.
Once you know how to actually draw a real eye, you'll know how to place it on a face.
This is definitely the best way to understand how eyes are structured and be able to change it to fit more what youre going for. I do anime esque art and i draw eyes still somewhat as they would irl. Some examples. Absolutely important to understand how things are structured irl before you try and stylize anything. Otherwise youre not really stylizing
Aye, All anime eyes are, is simplified portraits of real eyes. If your fundamental knowledge on the topic of eyes is good and accurate, it gives you a far more in-depth understanding upon which to base your stylization.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with drawing anime or preferring to produce stylised work. But you must not let that pursuit limit you from understanding what exactly you're drawing.
the circle method helps me because it lets me think of the eye in a 3d space since eyeballs are in a socket. but with drawings eyes on heads, its mostly about proportions
take a look at a large amount of portraits and just try draw the guidlines on where the eyes, nose, mouth and ears land over it
if you want to get really good at it id suggest sticking with realistic eyes, and think of drawing eyes how a sculptor would sculpt an eye, as in think of it as a 3d sphere that you layer with more clay for eye lids, and for that to look natural you'd have to keep the eye socket realistic, and for that you'd have to know how the nose bridge builds the eye socket, in conclusion, forget learning how to draw the eyes as a part of the whole head, and master drawing the full nose, because it's the foundation for the whole face.
