#Measurements!

Just got a few rulers and decided to finally follow measurements for figures. With a simplified art style (Going for anime/manga), I went for 7/7.5 heads length. I was told that the hips would be somewhere in the direct middle of such, and went with that without much of any other guideline. Are there other points of measurement that I can follow to come up with more accurate proportions in the future? (Like where the shoulders should be, or chest.) I am relatively a beginner, so tips of any kind would be helpful. :)

Made another thing with it

i think this part should be a bit longer

#

a good technique is using the “head ratio”

#

where depending on the character’s height, they will be X heads tall

#

if you search it you can find and choose the one that matches your drawing’s height

oohh i see

#

i think what made it smaller than it should was the head size

#

the top of the head should be bigger.

A nice way to tell if the torso is the right size for non children (like tiny kids) is for from the top of the head to the crotch to be about half the height

#

Children have a whole other ratioPomPom_Cry2

and also, i noticed the reference lines you did are a bit off place

# valid trench Ah I see, I was using this one

there are different proportion canons for different kinds of figure drawing. For instance, for fashion illustration, figures may be 12 heads tall, and 3/4 of the height will be in the legs. Super heroes also have crazy exaggerated proportions. Some cartoon and anime have their own rules. For example Bugs Bunny is about 41/2, or 5 heads high. So when I saw your drawing, I thought it was fine, depending on what you want to use it for.

the space between the lines in uneven, but i did it based on >where< in the body they should be going through

O sht, thanks

it prety much depends on stylization, but standart body measurements follow a similar ratio depending on height

#

and gender

people on here are drawing all kinds of things, for different reasons, and some style things their own way. I think it just depends on what rules you pick to follow and strictly you want to adhere to them

#

Just be consistent with what you pick

Right that makes sense, tysm
