I've been thinking about getting a drawing tablet I can hook up with my windows computer for awhile but I'm not sure which one to get. I do want something under $400 (USD) that has a screen. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, what app should I be using with that drawing tablet? 😅

I recommend something like this, and also strongly recommend getting a tablet stand and maybe a drawing glove.

XP Pen and Huion having a sale rn, so here are links to all of their display tablets: https://www.xp-pen.com/store/series/graphic-pen-displays.html

I currently have a Huion Kamvas Pro 13. I bought it a long time ago for $299 USD on Amazon.

PROS:

  • It doesn't get too hot
  • pen doesn't need batteries
  • pen doesn't scratch screen
  • screen is matte
  • has express buttons and a slider thing (I don't use any of these other than to adjust the tablet screen brightness 😭 )
  • no gap between pen nib and screen
  • Has served me for over a year of fairly regular use.
  • only one cable to hook it up (it takes power from the PC. So probably check to see that your PC can handle that much usage.)

CONS:

  • Pen calibration is kinda off, idk if my model is mildly defective or needs driver updates, but I'm pretty sure it's just because I don't hold the pen perpendicular to the screen.
Like, the pen calibrates to where the nib meets the pen, not the tip of the nib, if that makes sense.

I've used Huion for a very long time (this is only my second tablet in like 10 years maybe with them lmao)
My last one is long discontinued and didn't have a screen, but it did exactly what I needed.
