#Simple Port Forwarding/Open

Hi folks, I am having a tech problem and saw on a reddit post that someone used Cloudflare Tunnel to solve their own similar problem.
I use T-Mobile Home Internet, and their Gateways offer basically no customization or options. It seems like I have a firewall in the device that is blocking me from accessing an application called GameRanger. In order to bypass this, I need to open UDP port 16000. I cannot do this with the T-mobile Gateway, as there are no settings and they do not allow port forwarding.

I am really out of my depth here, I am a very basic computer user, and I would appreciate any input or help.

Let me post the error message here

"You appear to have a firewall or router that is blocking you from playing games.

Firewalls are designed to prevent unwanted communication to and from your computer or network, but sometimes they are too strict and actually block legitimate data. That is what is happening here.

The built-in firewall in Mac OS X (in Sharing in System Preferences) will not be the problem. You will be able to play games with GameRanger with that firewall enabled.

The firewall that is causing the problem is likely to be in your modem/router. You will need to ask your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or refer to your router's instruction manual for information on how to open UDP port 16000 in your firewall. Most routers are configured through a web page built into them. You may be able to reach yours here. Unfortunately, it is not possible to offer step-by-step instructions here as every router is different.

If you are at work on a company network or at a university, you may not be able to fix the problem yourself. Instead you may have to ask the network administrator to open UDP port 16000 in the firewall."

I was able to open an incoming port UDP 16000 on my computer, I think the porblem is TMobile isnt allowing the GameRangers external port?

Theres another service LocalExpose I asked about, and they said this.
"Hey, thanks for contacting us about this.

Your issue is very likely Carrier-Grade NAT (CG-NAT) which basically means that T-Mobile's public IP will not ever forward directly to your actual IP address, because T-Mobile does not give your gateway a unique public address. We have a lot of customers on T-Mobile, but that does not necessarily mean that LocalXpose is compatible with GameRanger.

Whether we can solve your issue will depend on whether you can configure your public address in GameRanger. It sounds like GameRanger assumes your T-Mobile IP is the address it should be using, and if that is the case -- unfortunately that is not something that LocalXpose can change.

However, if GameRanger allows you to configure your own address and port, it would be easy to use LocalXpose to forward that address to your actual machine. Unfortunately, I suspect based on limited web searching (and very limited docs on the GameRanger website) that GameRanger is somewhat limited in its configuration.

Another problem here is that we do not support TCP and UDP on the same port, and it seems (based on limited web searching) that GameRanger also expects 16000 to listen for both TCP and UDP traffic. But that may not be a hard requirement, I don't know.

So, as of right now I don't believer GameRanger will allow you to define your public IP and ports independently, so you most likely wouldn't want to waste time trying to set up LocalXpose. And I'm very sorry about that!"

access something

Ok, that has nothing to do with tunnels

If the game requires you to open ports, but you're behind cgnat, you're out of luck.

desert stream
#

Oh wow

normal vessel
#

It's basically a developer fail, you shouldn't need to open ports to access something

desert stream
#

Game Ranger is an old application for playing old games

normal vessel
#

Well, it won't work if you're behind cgnat, and it sounds like you might be?

desert stream
#

yeah, it looks like

normal vessel
#

Something like Tailscale might be easier to set up

desert stream
#

That looks like a VPN. What would that do if my internet is coming from Tmobile?

normal vessel
#

What is your goal? Playing with friends or with random people on the internet?

desert stream
#

Friends

#

but they use GameRanger

normal vessel
#

Yeah, then tailscale would work.

#

Well, that's sad for you, because it doesn't work for you^^

Yeah, im guessing tailscale would take the place of GR and let me host something?
