My employer wants me to use the cloudflare VPN thing but it is very annoying that it connects automatically after every restart. There is no option for this and disabling the service in the strartup configuration in MacOS seems to break it.

That's a purposeful configuration they have control over (and defaults to being off)
they can control auto connects, allowing you to disconnect, change modes, etc
