It's used situationally the same way tank limit breaks are used in ffxiv. When there is heavy raid damage with high player skill variance such as:

-Bone dragon's tether and windmill/wings mechanic.

-Light dragon's spreads after portal jumps.

-Any boss mechanic with high continuous raid damage.

All player power increases are tweaks to improve room for error. A 5% increase in party damage is a 5% margin of error for deaths and dropped uptime.

In the same way, a huge 80k health raid shield increases the margin of safety for any mechanic where dps can die from straight damage

Games with open pvp are the most toxic cesspools of games I've ever seen. Arena-style pvp is fine, generally.

Tanks are fortunately or unfortunately given the biggest variety of tools in Imagines to deal with situations.

These are basically core and universally used:

Priority 0 (role is screwed without them)
Tempest Ogre
Frost Ogre

But the problem is you only use Tempest Ogre for dungeon trash and specific encounters. It is a dead slot out of that, but it is the single most powerful Imagine where it is used.

And frost ogre is almost mandatory to break most dungeon boss's break bars to make dps checks. It is also excellent for quickly breaking trash bars and ccing/vulning them as a consequence.

So in normal circumstances you'll have:

Trash clearing:
Tempest Ogre, Frost Ogre

Dungeon boss:
Frost Ogre, Flex.

The problem then is raid encounters and master dungeons.

The break bars are clearly designed for 4 tanks - with only 2, you will never be able to break their bars, so Frost Ogre is useless. There also aren't any places where it's more useful than dps vacuums in Frost and Bone dragon.

So Tempest Ogre and Frost Ogre are basically bricked in 2 / 3 encounters. To me, the combination that has improved clear rates the most for raids and the two hardest Master dungeons is Airona/Juggernaut

So, for flex slots, that leaves us with - in terms of communtiy 'consensus':

Tina (Massive CDR buff)
Brigand Leader (ATK/MATK buff)
Veno (Small boss vuln)

The problem with the first two is that they're both considered BIS options for supports. In a raid with 4 supports, you will almost always see 3 brigand leaders and Tinas, and they're unique buffs

and Tina is the single most powerful buff in the game for dps

So carrying these on tanks will be redundant and dead slots most of the time, unless you whale and get Tina A5 since the raid only takes the strongest active Tina. All of them have a long shared cooldown

So that leave us with 3 flex options that aren't kinda braindead:

Venobzzar Incubator - Small additive vuln
Airona - Battle Rez
Golden Juggernaut - 30% tank health scaling raid shield, 20% on-hit damage buff that scales off the target's ATK/MATK

My f2p frost mage has 77k hp at a 26k AS.

In FFXIV, a tank Limit Break 1 at 20% DR would be mathematically equivalent to a 25% shield.

A Limit Break 2 at 40% DR is equivalent to a 66.7% shield

A Limit Break 3 at 80% DR is equivalent to a 400% HP shield.

Tank limit break is considered by casuals to be a useless LB, but Limit Break 1 and 2 are considered the most important LBs for hardcore teams pushing fast progression. Because it takes raid awareness

A 100 -> 200% DPS health shield on a 120s / 100s / 80s cooldown is fucking insane and I'm shocked the community lampoons it

I'm sure you've seen "Dominion" or "Lucky" or "Agile" on some of your pieces.

And then you'll see it end with something such as "Illuminate" or "Mirage" or "Anatta"

Those words describe what stats are on the piece, the suffixes of Illuminate, Mirage, and Anatta

And the prefix - Dominion, Lucky, Agile, etc - determine which of those two stats are higher

So a Dominion piece will always be high Mastery
A Lethal piece will always be high Crit
A Lucky piece will always be high Luck

etc

Now where Versatility comes into play is on Wane gear

Which doesn't have a specific weighting but is still a possible roll under Wane, since Wane can be any combination of stats that the piece can roll

An agility chestpiece can never roll Mastery, so a Wane chestpiece will also never roll Mastery, but it will roll any 2 stats that are possible in that pool

So you'll see Crit/Haste, Crit/Vers, Crit/Luck, Haste/Vers, etc

But never Mastery on that specific chestpiece

Comparing these two charms for visual reference:

I rolled a Wane charm which is suffix of Anatta

And a Dominion charm with a suffix of Illuminate

Illuminate is always Crit/Mastery, and Dominion then makes it higher Mastery than crit
