So, I found an old iPod that my parent used before and I'm trying to recover it

I tried with Windows 11 and latest version of iTunes and it showed an error code 5.

And I also tried with Windows XP and iTunes 11.0.0.163 with iPod1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore IPSW file but it showed an error code 1603...

Yes I make it to recovery mode. The screen with CD with note on it with cable. I got into the recovery mode by pressing the on/off button and home button for few seconds.

What should I do? Is it a hardware issue with iPod device? Do I need to repair it? Please help me.

Did you get a popup that said to software update it first?? And did you ever manage to fix this? I’m having the same issue with a Gen 2 defeatcry

I found the issue on mine. First you have to let the battery run out until the screen turns off, that will put it into DFU mode if you can’t manually do it!

Yeah, actually my iPod is not charging, constantly showing the red-battery-charging screen.. so I need to get the DFU mode manually all the time.

im not experienced with 1st gen, only 2nd, 4th, and 5th. If all else fails, then it's probably a failed nand.
