Make sure you have a backup, friend
the worst part is I just got this, I still have time to return if its really bad. Im not a big tech guy but I know anything above 20 is some damage, I just wanna know if I should put music on it and how long it will last me.
it still has 74Gb left
not financialy stable rn to mod it. I have 24 month warranty on it btw.
I have drives around that condition that are plenty usable. But they do eventually start having serious issues and then fail. Can’t really say how long it’ll last you. It’s far from the worst I’ve seen, but also not great. If you can try evaluating it (load music, listen) you can get a sense of whether it works for you now (and return if not). If it works now, maybe it kinda becomes a question then of like will it last long enough to get you through till a future where you mod it, y’know?
Oh yeah well with that warranty you’ve got plenty of time to evaluate it!
yeah. ima listen to it rn and test it. I payed 70 quid for it so im not too surprised its used but surpised it could fail at any moment.
audio is pretty good with my headphones. just dont want it to die within a year or so
I could add music to it and everything. I dont think im going to mod it anytime soon tbh. so should I get it returned or something like that? cause I want this to last long term. (1 year or 2. hopefully more)
@celest turret what do you think I should do? cause I still have time to return it
I mean, I think either way is reasonable. Keep the pod and enjoy it and know that all things come to an end at some point, and this drive might last a few years or might not, no guarantees. Or return/exchange it and get one that has more promising drive stats (or flash if you can change things up) and increase your confidence/estimate it will last longer.
It sounds like you have a decent warranty for two years in any case, so maybe use the hell out of the pod for two years and if it still works at the end of that then you got a good couple years out of it, which is a win, and if it dies early, you can use the warranty to cover that, which is also a win. TLDR warranties do allow for slack in hardware requirements I guess?
FWIW you also said something earlier about it “failing at any moment”. Yes, that could happen, but in my experience at least it’s more likely that it would get progressively more buggy/weird/crashy/skippy/errory//etc over time and you’d start to sense things not going well rather than it happening all at once. Again, either could happen, but short of something drastic like a drop it’s probably more likely to exhibit issues increasingly over time. You could regularly check those drive stats if you’re curious how quickly the issues are going up. If they’re going up quickly, that’s bad; if they’re stable then cool the drive found some bad sectors but handled it
amazing advice, tysm. I contacted the suppliers and asked them for a compensation or a replacement. We will see what happens overtime
how do you access that data? want to check it on my nano 3
hold middle button then menu. wait until you see the device restarting. you will see the apple loggo. then hold the middle button and the button for when you want to go back a song (left) you will be brought to a white screen. go menu > IO > hard drive > HDsmartdata

wait but doesn't nano use flash?
not too sure. you can try this or go to a tech shop and get it scanned. thats what I did after I asked the question on this thread.
