I replaced the battery because i kind of figured that was the problem but it didn't turn on afterwards. My dad helped me with the multimeter and we found that the old battery was not holding charge, the 30 pin usb cable was working, the new battery was working and the motherboard was getting power. Any ideas why it won't turn on?

does anything at all come up on the screen when you plug it in?
nuh
no
ok so we don’t know if the iPod worked before that?
How long ago did it work?
With a new battery I would expect it to at least show a “low battery” message on the screen. But the fact that nothing at all is coming up is concerning, could be a motherboard problem. I would suggest re-seating the battery and trying again. If that doesn’t work, I would say probably a board issue. Can you see any bent pins in the 30 pin connector, or any debris that is blocking pin contact?
