This is to check the drive health. Ok. Unplug the iPod from the computer. Hold menu and centre button until screen goes blank. As soon as screen goes blank, hold centre button and rewind until you boot into diagnostic mode. Select “I/O”. Then select “harddrive” then “SMART data” or “smrtdat”. Then let me know the number of “reallocs” and “pending sectors”
Hi, I'm having the same issue with my 4th gen iPod, is it ok if I send you the reallocs and pending sectors as well?
Sure. It’s a slightly different process though. Instead of going to IO>Harddrive>smartdata you use the fast forward and rewind buttons to navigate to SMRTDAT I think. I’m pretty sure it’s on the second or third page of the diag menu
yep, you're right on how to get there, my reallocs are on 58 and pending 780
Yeah that’s a goner unfortunately. Might still work but it probably doesn’t have long
I figured it's done for, the ipod wont turn on at all, thankfully I was already thinking of doing a flashmod to increase the capacity just a little and make it last longer as well. Thansk for your help, really needed a second look at the data to corroborate.
No problem, hope the flashmod goes well
