Hello. I have an ipod video on which I would love to put some videos (hence the name), but for my ipod I use linux with rhythmbox and I know that if I want to add videos to it through itunes, it will "sync" and delete all my music from the ipod.

I tried using Banshee with handbrake, but it either didn't want to put the video on the ipod (saying that m4a isn't a supported format which is dumb) or it put the video on there but then the ipod wasn't able to play it (it showed the video as being on the ipod, but when i clicked on it it just went blank for a few seconds and then kicked me back to the video select menu).

I’ve had success with older handbrake (1.3.3 I believe) at apple 240p preset with iPod 5G support

Banshee or gtkpod?

I just use windows, you need to experiment with Linux alternatives

I doubt you will get much help with Linux alternatives, not many people here use them

The iPod is very particular about the video being the right format. I’d say make sure it’s in the correct size and format and try adding it again. If you are actually seeing the video on your iPod, then that’s the hard part over. More you just have to give it the right kind of video.

But honestly, you’re making it much harder on yourself and I would just use iTunes for syncing your library if you’re not going to use RockBox. I know that’s a pain considering you use Linux primarily but… it’ll make the hassle much less in the end.
