I'm trying to learn how to make Black Mesa mods to make a really good mod.
I don't expect to reach the level of bm bs but I want to get close!
Half-Life: The Pioneer is a prequel set in 1978, long before the events of the original Half-Life. It follows a young Dr. Wallace Breen and his two close colleagues, Joseph and Montgomery, who work at the Black Mesa Research Facility. The trio specializes in studying alien lifeforms but is not involved with teleportation experiments. When Black Mesa discovers a rare opportunity to send a team to the borderworld Xen, they force Breen and his friends to go, using the mission as a way to trap them due to their desire to leave the facility.
On Xen, the team discovers the Combine, a powerful interdimensional empire exterminating native species. The Combine mistake the humans for Xen natives and attack. There were originally three Nihilanths, each tied to different aspects of Xen's ecosystem, but the Combine are wiping them out. Joseph and Montgomery are killed in the chaos, and Breen barely survives.
Desperate and vengeful, Breen strikes a secret deal with the seventh, lowest-ranking Combine Administrator. In exchange for his life, he offers the Combine access to Earth once another portal is opened. Breen journeys across the alien landscape to reach a distant Combine mothership, fighting creatures and Combine forces never seen again—species later extinct due to the Combine purge.
This experience scars Breen and fuels his later decisions. He returns to Earth and eventually becomes the Earth's Administrator after the Combine invasion, as seen in Half-Life 2. The Pioneer explores his transformation from a determined scientist to a desperate survivor and eventual collaborator, showing why he acts with such fear and authority in later games.
The synopsis is a little wrong because this version is old, but I intend to change everything from black mesa, HEV Mark 3, Old guns, new xen creatures (maybe)

The shotgun animation really reminded me from 2012 bms
its my first time animating so its expected to be a bit bms 2012

I want to share my story on forums to see if I can make this a reality, but I think the concept is too complex for gold source

But with the earlier connection to the combine

My story is full of holes, especially about Breen's personality.

Little room to imagine his “before the fall” attitude

The world thing may just be a fan theory
But according to the actual overwiki
He was very manipulative, prideful, and controlling
It also suggests he knew about GMan, his employers, and their plans long before HL2 and HL1
so that means i can make gman appear in my mod right?

Perhaps it’s GMan arranging something with the combine or the vorts
morticians, Google 💔
Maybe even GMan dropping subtle hints or stalking until he out right confronts Breen
And sets him up with a “prophecy”

That changes his personality to be more controlling
Since he’s trying everything he can to not let whatever GMan wants to happen
But it only ends up leading GMan right to what he wants

This idea of an older black mesa came to me while I was playing black mesa blue shift
Adds a lot of potential in new settings, characters, and gameplay
seeing the ruins of old laboratories, the experiments
mainly the zombies using the HEV Mark 3
Rosenberg mentions where the old entrances are
And how the facility was much larger
And extended much into the settings we see in the games

already dreamed about my complete mod once, the gameplay was Breen running through Xen shooting enemies with the Colt M4, the enemies were strange species and combines
I have never seen any concept of the mark 1

Trust your process don't give up even if it's hard, your passion will create the mod as a way you want to expect it, I remember when I first create my mod it was very challenging but my enthusiasm motivated me.
I won't give up on this project any time soon

The main Idea was that
The combine mothership is dropping lots of combine ships in xens islands
And each one of the islands are different biomes
And breen needs to destroy all the bases on all the islands
To cut the connection to the mothership for it to lose the energy field
Then breen can get in the mothership

because the seven hour war was so quick, i have a headcannon that the combine used their own technology to take human soldiers, and turn them into their own
like how we see in the last part of hl2
but a suuuuper basic and rushed version
cuz it would have needed to be fast
and the conversion speed would be slow
and the combine would have time to upgrade their tech to make it faster
maybe the combine robots from opposing force 2

this looks like a great mod! i think for some of the species in xen that are wiped out later, you could have something like the shock roach or spore cannon, that is either a creature that Breen adapts into a weapon or a weapon that is obtained through killing something else.
also do you think Breen will be voiced or silent? if he is voiced you could add a lot of lines that make the player like him, similar to entropy: zero. If not, you could do similar things with scientists talking to him before he goes to xen, developing his personality through people comments from others. An example of this could be a scientist commenting on Breen's uniform, complementing it or saying it looks rushed. Either way, I think this will be a very good mod.
this is a pretty good idea, maybe show how it adapted to the forest area with greener skin and slightly smaller body, possibly something like a fast headcrab with a more agile build. depending on how dense the forest is, you could make the similarities between the gonarch and fast headcrabs more noticeable. I think it would be interesting to see how different creatures adapt to these different biomes, such as bullsquids in a more mountained area having stonger legs with sharper claws, maybe being able to latch onto walls with their mouths to climb cliffs to suprise any prey it may have detected.

I paused the production because it was a bit too ambitious for black mesa yk
the thing with these guns is, you need a reason for them to exist. it is shown in alyx that there were humanoid combine forces prior to the invasion of earth, but it is very likely that their weapons would not be compatible with humans. you could add these enemies to your game (it would require a lot of guessing about what they looked like, what they sounded like, etc.) then add the guns based on them, but you could also have a prototype weapon from black mesa in a section where breen somehow returns to earth for a short time (this might be impossible as it would be hard to implement into the story) or scientists on earth teleporting it to you accidentally. You definitely cannot have CP or other human combine forces in your game, but you could make something similar to an alien grunt but a synth, with large but still usable guns. Another cool gun could be a strider cannon mounted somewhere that you can use against a very large boss or just a dead strider that you can use the cannon of like in entropy zero
