Clearly, you did not research enough to find out how ineffective it is compared to normal game play. I would suggest you do that and reevaluate, but if that is your decision, then thanks for giving us a look and take care out there.

Autodidactism is downright useless

#

People only use it for alts they’re too lazy to touch for weeks on end if at all, and it takes investment (ingame, effort/time/councils) to even get it going

#

It’s a “nice to have” but there aren’t any paid features in this game that are P2W even if Autodidactism often gives that impression if you just read what it does

for what it's worth, i've seen multiple people who want to pay to win buy a VIP subscription, see what autodidactism is like, and immediately want a refund

basically how it works is you go to a certain location, buy (with councils, not real money) a consumable Textbook, and then you can spend an extremely long time that your character has to be offline to earn an extremely, comically tiny amount of xp

it's great for alts and for players who are less active, but it's very slow, like we're talking you could earn the amount of xp in 30 minutes of actually playing that you get in 5 days of autodidactism

i know that if, for you, any amount of paid features is too much, this won't make a difference, and that's ok. if it's a dealbreaker for you, that's your opinion and that is totally valid. but they did try to design something that isn't outright so strong it coerces people into paying

VIP was only created due to overwhelming player demand to support the game further, and they tried very hard to make it nice but not a must-have. there is no pleasing everyone and one person's "not good enough" is someone else's "too good"

Autodidactism is only useful for secondary PCs since to craft a book you need to be 25 lvl above the minimum in the skill to write it.

"Writing Books at a Non-Fiction Writing Table
Books can be written using Non-Fiction Writing at a Non-Fiction Writing Table or Desk.

This is a desk for writing non-fiction textbooks. These textbooks can be studied by VIP players to gain experience via the Autodidacticism skill. (You need VIP access to use textbooks, but not to write them).

Write Book
Book writing happens while your character is offline. (You will "hang out" with this writing table for two days of offline time).

Each textbook is for a specifici skill and level range. To write the textbook, your Non-Fiction Writing skill must be at least as high as the book's minimum level, and your level in the book's topic skill must be 25 levels higher than the book's minimum level.

(For instance, to write the textbook for Shield levels 1-10, you'd need Non-Fiction Writing level 1 and Shield level 26. To write the book for Shield 11-20, you'd need Non-Fiction Writing level 11 an Shield level 36. And so on)."

Most of the reports are available to non-VIPs btw, particularly the ones most used by third party tools made by players. There’s no analytical advantage to VIP logs IMHO unless you’re a data nerd, especially because there’s no competition in this game when it comes to min/maxing. This isn’t WoW where you need on-screen addons to track stuff and do raids, that’s not the type of purpose the logs serve - it’s just a nice-to-have for nerds.

Might sound like fanboys defending game, but it’s moreso being honest from a more experienced perspective. Game breaks the norm when it comes to paid features, lack of fomos, no tangible benefit to racing to endgame, no real competitiveness in playerbase, etc, which is what makes none of the VIP features p2w.

The actual most impactful VIP feature is extra storage, and added character slots (which you didn’t mention) btw, though if you’re using more characters than the slots you can have without it, then you’re THAT invested in the game anyway. Still ends up as a feature of convenience that you can do without (you get more extra storage from ingame crafted gear than from VIP for example, the only exception being tranfer chest storage which can only be increased via VIP and is mainly used for/with additional characters).

Tl;dr you pay for some convenience rather than any p2w; the playerbase overall will agree with that.

YMMV, but it’s worth taking into consideration the info shared above.
