#Playing on Linux. When you release the mouse after moving the camera it re-centers
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I don't have this issue on Ubuntu Wayland.
The only issue related to the cursor/camera movement was fixed in another bugfix, and was not only happening on Linux.
When's the last time you apt-upgraded?
What version of proton are you using?
I found an interesting post from 5 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectgorgon/comments/kn8d5x/game_breaking_cursor_bug_in_steam_demo/
@zealous frigate is that what you experience?
If it is the same issue, I assume the same answer applies, which comes from Citan directly.
That's not a message from the team. The hotkey stuff came from another person in the thread.
u/eheimburg (Citan) answered it is a Unity thing that is not considered a bug by Unity.
Please keep in mind the information is 5 years old, despite being official.
ah yeah..well that bug still happens
It happens to me as well. Also, if you notice the water acting strange, run Gorgon through Proton.
Or disable the dynamic waves in graphics
Water looks fine for me on proton
Another piece of info for this thread, updates notes from March 2021: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectgorgon/comments/mddbjg/update_notes_march_25_2021/
Fix for Mouse-Cursor Centering
Some players found it unintuitive that the mouse-cursor was repositioned in the center of the screen after dragging the camera with a mouse-drag. We've fixed this issue, but unfortunately the fix is only available on Windows so far. (But we are optimistic that this will be possible for the other OSes eventually.)
We've been testing this for a while now and it's worked well, but let us know if you discover problems. If you need to turn it off (or if you just like the old behavior better): open the Settings window in-game, find the Special Settings section, and add the word RecenterCursor to the settings box. (Note that this only does something on Windows OSes; other OSes are always in recenter-cursor mode.)
General note for Linux users coming here, I have used dwproton since day one and have not experienced the problem (Ubuntu Wayland). (I have)
It would be useful to get various feedbacks for various versions of Proton (native, GE, DW etc).
I tried GE and Cachy proton. Both using xwayland
Dwproton is a fork from cachy proton hm
Looking at the test video from another thread, I think I am wrong.
I always use the right click for camera movement, and might have the same issue as you and others.
I simply don't see it because I don't use the left click, which is what you and others do if I understand correctly.
Can you confirm that you have the problem only if you hold left click when looking around?
Holding with right click should work (not saying you should do that, just trying to confirm).
i move my camera when holding right click and it resets the cursor
same with left click
Hmm. I will make some tests later when I am home and try to learn more.
im pretty sure its a recent thing again
but i could be wrong
i found a fix
or at least a workaround
adding PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 to the steam launch arguments makes it run through wayland and the mouse doesnt reset anymore
but it doesnt feel great
what doesn't?
turning the mouse
i cant explain it
on normal the camera movement is pretty smooth. with wayland forced it feels very choppy.
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 switches Proton from XWayland to native Wayland input handling.
yeah
so you might need to tweak acceleration in the settings to go back to the raw feeling
Gnome settings*
the start of the camera movement feels like a stop and go motion
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 %command%
or
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland %command%
are options.
the game feels also pretty stuttery now
or
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 WINE_MOUSE_RELATIVE=1 %command%
but if forcing Wayland makes the game stuttery, that's not a good option for you.
the camera movement is stuttery
kinda weird
the start of the camera movement feels verry sudden and unnatura
well others can try it. it just bothers me
Try using gamescope, it can help
But personally, I won't use the linux native version until performance is closer to proton performance.
gamescope is just like native wayland no?
but i can try that. never even tried the native linux version as they are usually bad
ok yeah gamescope seems to fix the issues im having
camera is smooth and the cursor is not recentering
performance might be a bit worse? not sure tbh
not sure. cant measure it
I have the "issue" on both right and left click, and never realized or reacted to it.
Just putting that here for info.
