While I get what you’re saying, the ops that appear in the cert shops aren’t completely random they follow a general pattern from our CN counterpart even if the dates don’t exactly line up 6 months after. That being said the two major gold cert ops are reedalt and Ines (around 6th anni) since Reed alt is the only significant op to get in the cert shop before Ines , getting her instead of another op when pulling on a regular banner isn’t ideal

You’re also assuming a lot when it comes to pulls the guy who posted the image never said anything about how many pulls it took only that he was “trying” on the banner and got this. That usually means he pulled a lot since lower pull counts people usually brag about.

About pulling for thorn :
So for you I was supposed to wait months to clear those stages and suffer in the meantime? The rewards from the stage in hard mode also helped me upgrade a lot of characters to E2+SM3.

I was lacking a true AOE-clearing character, and his S2 gave me the AOE/heal support I needed for most of the stages. (i'm talking about the hard mode story mode).
Even in Annihilation, he can eliminate everything from a distance and just keep alives the elites.

You can’t say that a permanent 1K AOE DPS from just his skill (which lasts 18 seconds) is bad, it goes up to 2K with 2 stacks of S2, + the heal (100-200HPS)+ his auto(400-500dps)+ his AS boost for everyone that add a small amount.

Since I’m not an old player, I won’t be able to get limited OP characters at the level of wisdael/the mage one unless I either pull them randomly or wait a whole year.
and as everyone propose a wisdael S3+M3 already, her being overpowered just makes the game unfun as she just ignore everything and OS everything. so i use her only when i hate this stage.

& waiting months without a character to cover your weaknesses just isn’t viable nor fun. as you are stuck, and the only thing you can do is endless farm.

There were two banners when thorns was up, thorns and ray.

Ray is infinitely a better choice so you made the wrong choice on op to pull on if you really wanted to pull on one.

Missing out on limited event shop items which are mostly lmd and items needed to promote your ops bc you wanted to do story stages that will always be there was objectively, 100%, no way around it, the wrong move to make.

maybe ray would've but personally i see thorns as more interesting. not more powerfull, but more fun. i don't have ray, so can't say from personal experience, but i do think, that in early game aoe from thorns may help more. partly due to range. like against explosive slugs, and some of early spams

like anyway, it's possible to obtain both of them [=none of them are limited], so i don't see a problem here

yep the text was looking as giving command/being jugmental (the first answer, mostly because of the 3 last rows),

Ray may be better vs elite /boss, but its not what that i need in my compo,
i needed big aoe+range. (and also, i need less healing as they are killed from far away+ the100heal/sec for everyone is more than enough, i still have saria/kaltsit if i need more heal).
and as S2 doesnt have a CD, it's a nearly permanent 7range aoe dmg +heal, so he fill 2 roles at the sames times where i did not had he ressource to upgrade everyone.

if you compare operator vs operator only, you are right, Ray does more dmg than Thorn vs 1 target.
but fitting into a role : ray would fill a role that is already filled by my other operator (ulpianus, viviana & typhon). while thorns reduce my weakness and give me flexibilities.

i did not miss the event shop, as i used some originite to get the sanity (i agree that its not a good idea on the long run, but i had the time to play, so better that time to the fulles to get enought pull for the one i want).
using 1 originite gave me 6-7 in return, so more pull in the short term, but less in the long run. (and since i can clean more stage now, it give me more opportunity).

Uh Ray is still a better fit than Thornstar in pretty much every stage but if you like using him go ahead
Thornstar healing you are using for scratch damage that you can realistically just play around better usually, and Kaltsit is a terrible medic anyways if you have been relying on her I suggest grabbing a ptilo/silence or 4* sussuro/perfumer
The operators you named aren't particularly for DPSing anyways, the strongest being ulpianus, Vivi is very medicore and Typhon is more of a lane holder if anything with some decent dps, if you are playing general content you can always just dps harder to win any stage, and in harder content Thornstar sees no use either
You don't really need AOE, Ulpianus/Typhon kind of has it covered from a range, if they can't deal with the threat chances are you needed arts damage instead

obv theres cases of really good luck continuously or opposite but thats rare with large data sets, like really rare
Most people who do minor whaling do atleast 1200 pulls~ a year (buying monthly card, event op, monthly hh, $30 limited packs, gold certs shop)
Given the effective 6* rate with pity is 2.89%, thats about 34-35 6* for them a year average,
and not counting from spark/300 pull free copy, or other packs they might buy
I ran a few simulations, since the average for 1200 should be 34.5 sixs,
the bottom 1% of unluckiest people get less than 27 6*, (most being 27)
and the top 1% of people get 44
