Does the starting horse stats really matter if you’re planning to get the best saddle anyway? I ask because I can buy a lower level Kladruber now or wait and buy a higher level one later.

No they don't really matter

You might have slight issues swimming if a horse has very low stamina bar (but then it can be fixed with horse stimulants temporary), other than that it's quite pointless.

I was more interested in getting the Kladruber so that I don't get thrown off of the horse when around predators. I currently have the free Tennessee Walker, and I get thrown quite often. It seems the higher level Kladruber gets spooked less than the lower level ones.

Fear stat does not exist, all horses are the same.

just aim the horses butt at the grizzly charging at you and you'll be fine 😄

In my experience, yes and no.

Personally, I like speed. (Mainly cuz I avoid PvP like the plague) but I'll never forget the first time I outran bounty hunters on my buckskin Mustang with the Nacogdoches saddle.

Compared to my Ardennes with the same saddle and same stirrups, my Mustang would win a race by a mile and a half and be halfway to Timbuktu before the big lug got halfway to the finish line.

Now if cores are what you're worried about, then no, it doesn't really matter as the saddle and stirrups will account for any drain rates.

Also, talk to Gus. He has a helpful trinket called the Snowy Egret Trinket that reduces ur horses' core drain by 10% permanently.

You'll also notice that some of them have different Handling styles. Yes, there's a difference. Think like driving a bike vs a tractor trailer.

Acceleration also varies too (how long it takes for you to get up to max speed)

In the end, it all really boils down to which horse you like best.

(Also, people might call me crazy, but I've noticed the Missouri Fox Trotters and Criollos fall a hell of a lot more than any other horse I've had)
