The basic edition is the best if you want to really play it, other than that none

If you don't have the original red dead redemption from the 360 era and are more focused on the story than multiplayer, the one that comes bundled with both.

If you already played the original and/or for some reason don't care about the story of both games (since they are directly connected). Then the base edition red dead redemption 2 is fine.

If you, for whatever reason, are only interested in "gtao, but cowboys and worse online features", then the ultimate edition because it does give you online bonuses/exclusive skins and an early game (online only) advantage. You don't get any lasting advantages though.

Also note that the ultimate edition usually goes on sale for like, $35 bucks. And at that point it actually is worth the money for the content you get.

Also note that the balancing in this game doesn't actually result in "best guns" most of the time.

They all have some kind of use when paired with proper ability cards online. And in single player, it literally does not matter once you get your dead eye fully leveled.

You can, yes. It'll just unlock whatever stuff comes with it.

But again, you're better off waiting for a sale on the ultimate edition. $35 bucks is the cheapest it goes. Which is still cheaper than buying the base edition at 20 bucks and then upgrading it later.

The stuff you get with the ultimate edition only really helps you in the early section of online where you need it. Post lv 30, it stops providing benefits. And the benefits it does give you have kind of been nerfed due to changes in the game mechanics

You don't download a code.... You copy the code into the store page and then download the game. And since you bought it from CD keys, you contact them, not Xbox

It'll show up in online once you make your character. Either as an in game coupon or it'll be auto claimed once you get into free roam. Story mode content just shows up as it's unlocked via story progression.
