For large animals like that, you need poison Arrow and not regular ones. Plus you need headshot for one shot kill. But it might be better to use a Sniper rifle with express ammo to better effect

A well placed arrow to the head of a deer has taken it down before (I think) but I've been using the bolt action (upgraded) with express ammo on large predators lately to great effect. Shot a grizzly in the behind the other day, and it fell down dead with perfect pelt still intact, has worked on alligators, wolves, and cougars too. Haven't tried it on deer or other larger animals, but I'm sure that as long as it's a one shot kill, the animal will remain 3 star.

BAR with express can down a Muse with 1 shot to head. Yes anything smaller will drop. The only thing that won't is legendary
