When was the last time someone actually successfully used the metal detector and dug something up? I’ve gone to every location on every collector map I could find to try to locate any piles of dirt where I could dig up a coin and I have not had any luck at all. I’ve been playing this game for so long and I’ve never found any underground collectors items. Anyone have any tips?

Use the detector at the location on Jean Ropke's map for current cycle. Then when you are on right spot you will get prompt to dig

depending on the platform you play, i heard on xbox /ps controller vibrate when you are near collectible , on pc you will see the light blinking much more often and you will hear on speakers, metal detector works fine, i found tons of collecibles with it

This is true. The controller does vibrate as you get in general area and the intensity goes up as you get close to the real location.
