is there any way to increase chances of getting legendary animals or anything of that sort? im hunting the oryx wolf and havent gotten it in a week of grinding. Ive used the map and marked all the places its supposed to spawn. im in a solo lobby and i cant find it. Do i need to reload the server whenever it isnt there?
Ive also cleared out the gang hideout and the free roam events but it just wont spawn

this interactive map helps a lot to clear up legendary animal spawning: https://jeanropke.github.io/RDOMap/
but at the end of the day, the spawns are random. and much less likely if you just keep waiting at a spot. you could try to load back into Free Roam to have more chances for a spawn. time of day doesn't matter as much, just that not much is happening in that area. like special Free Roam events, other players doing pvp etc

Tips for finding Legendary Animals in free roam:
-
There is a 72 hour (irl) cool down for Legendary Animal species in free roam. This means that if you sedate or kill the Legendary Onyx Wolf (for example), you will not be able to find the Onyx or Emerald Wolf again for 72 hours irl. Note: the cool down only triggers if you are the first person to sedate (or kill) the animal. If your friend sedates it, but you kill it (for example), only your friend will have the cool down applied - not you. Secondly, this cool down does not apply to Harriet's mission animals. You can freely do the Moonstone Wolf mission as many times as you want and it will not affect your ability to get the free roam Legendary Wolves (Onyx and Emerald).

Check the preferred weather conditions for the Legendary Animal you are seeking (use the command
/find onyx wolfin #compendium for this info). Note: this is only the preferred weather. This does not mean the spawn is guaranteed or that the animal can't spawn outside those weather conditions. Don't give up on a Legendary if the conditions don't match what it prefers! -
Hang around the general spawn location (yellow circle shown in the above bot) for a few minutes. If it does not spawn, change lobbies by going to pause menu > Online > Free Roam. This will place you in a new lobby in generally the same location where you last were. Leave the yellow circle, return back, and hang around the area for a little bit. Note: Legendary Animal pheromones are not like bait - they do not help the animal spawn. What they do is tell you the location of the Legendary once it has already spawned if you happen to lose sight of it.
TL;DR: it's all luck. Have fun!
Question, how long do i leave the yellow circle for and how long is it till i come back to search again?
72hours, or 3 full days in real life
wait so i have to take a 3 day break every time i search?
if it's for one exact legendary animal color, yes
oh ive never caught any legendary animal other than the sun gator so i was just wondering how long i search for and how long i stay out of the circle
It's just random if it spawns or in those time frames or not, if it doesnt just switch sessions. If you leave the yellow circle it WILL spawn again eventually or by spam switching sessions you'll get it earlier the actual cooldown is between kills @olive rain
what do you mean the cooldown between kills?
If you find any legendary animal and kill it / sedate it you won't see it again for a minimum of 3 real days
oh ok
Now if another player in your session does it first it doesn't apply to you, with that in mind you can have a friend or 2 spam switch sessions until someone finds it for you and just join in on them
you mean a solo session?
yeah
oh i dont have naturalist
that one doesnt do anything for the spawning
Crouch and don't run around that much, if you don't see it in like 2 minutes leave the area and come back
the legendary pheromones only help whilst already in a yellow area looking for the legendary animal
might actually be true tho so forget the bait xD
yeah i also heard thats just for attracting it when its alr there
yeah that makes sense
