Terrible Quest 3s Link Performance

I have the Kiwi design link cable and the performance is absolute dogshit. Running half life alyx on NoVR mod is fine, launching it on my quest 3s with link? Fucking 3 FPS, even the opening sequence takes like 45 seconds instead of like 10 because of the lag.

I have a GTX 1660 SUPER and I don’t really know my other specs 😬, it’s my bros pc. The half life 2 vr mod, a mod from a 20 YEAR OLD GAME, runs alright for the first few seconds, then a big lag spike and suddenly it’s so jittery I feel like throwing up.

I watched GetHip’s old video on how to get the most out of your link cable and disabled that USB setting or whatever, performance is still dogshit.

Weirdest part is that my old quest 2 that suffered an ant infestation seemed to run the game at least decently using an APPLE USB C MAC CHARGER, so it’s just mad confusing at this point.

Please help me I don’t even get motion sickness but I feel like throwing up rn, I’m at unplayably low resolution and 72 HZ.

I tried it and it runs like shit, but it can’t be the PC because it used to run PCVR fine on my quest 2

In fact it ran pretty decent considering that I was using an ant infested quest 2 and a Mac charging cable, it all changed once I got the quest 3s for Christmas tho.

I deleted a resource hog called voice.ai and removed some other stuff from my task manager

It’s not perfect but it runs well in some areas and at least decent in most areas

Sometimes weapon switching freezes the game for a sec but it doesn’t always happen

It’s inconsistent though, that’s why it’s so confusing for me

Update; I haven’t fixed it? I’m still having problems with the game freezing and then stuttering afterward, but it’s much better than it was before.

basically a part of the computer works to much and gets very hot, so it slows down to maintain a non critical temp, and it will keep doing this until system crash

you can monitor temps with HWInfo, just dont click any of the ads

Yes, Air is the way most systems get fresh air into the systems

This is the dust I found on the fans

At this point they’ve basically grown fur

So yeah I think that might be the problem

Sometimes the right lens or at least parts of it will desync with the left lens, creating an ugly pixelly border.

And the game runs buttery smooth but occasionally a it will lag behind for a frame

1: Download HWInfo, make sure you don’t click on the ads

2: open up a vr game and just monitor gpu and cpu

Ok so when playing vr games check how much vram you have left, you can find it in task manager, performance, gpu

So I figured out the issue

I can actually run the game on subpar performance at ultra

But the problem is recording

I like recording my gameplay, I have a yt channel

But the steam game recorder and Xbox game bar put heavy strain on the cpu and gpu

And it lags out

I realised when I disabled it and the lag went away suddenly

Monitoring my GPU it goes from around 40-60 so pretty stable

Without recording ofc

Which kinda sucks coz no more recording

1660 Super should most likely run Half Life Alyx. quest 3 is same res as quest 2 just has pancake lenses. My 4070 runs like 120fps and that's with the gpu not maxed out because the quest 2 I have only supports up to 120hz. the cpu shouldnt be an issue either. he may just need to mess with the settings. I recommend using msi afterburner and see see about adjusting settings

The only issue that'd I see is the VRAM, HL:A is optimized but that VRAM optimized especially in vr I don't think they could pull it off

I think its a VRAM issue. @torpid python, what settings do you run at? The it being fine tells me that at the start its loading into VRAM, and then as you play more, VRAM gets full, and it has to purge some textures n shit to get new data in there
