#Gpu choosing help post

I’d say it just depends on what games you plan on play if that makes sense
I play normal games and graphically intensive games. But i crank normal games to the max settings
and i also want vr games to open up and run smoothly
I mean the RTX 3090 has 24GB of GPU Memory
3090 has quite a bit better specs than the 3080 Ti
They perform pretty similarly. Unless you need 24gb of vram get the 3080ti. I would have a look into it before buying though
The the vram make my game look better on the highest settings and some visually intensive stuff?
Currently unless playing at 4k or higher probably won't make much if any difference. Even at 4k most games will be unaffected. There's very little reason for 24gb of vram. What's the price difference between the 2 cards though?
Like 300$ difference for founders edition
But I can get an evga ftw3 3090 for 1,190$ used - Like New
How much is a 4080?
Lemme see
Founders edition?
Any tbh. Founders edition is pretty great tho
1200$ usd
Get the 4080 then
It's the most powerful all round and has 16gb of vram rather than the 12 on the 3080 ti
4090 is the most powerful?
Yeah, I meant out of the 3 the 4080 is the best
Oh
Good luck getting your hands on a 4090 for a reasonable price
Ok
Lmfao
can u tell me a good brand to get 4080 from?
Hard to go wrong really but founders edition, Asus, MSI or maybe PNY look like some pretty decent models
I have bad history with gigabyte graphics cards but some people quite like them
hmm kk. also should i tell u the specs im gonna try to get and u could tell me if a 4080 would be a good choice then
Sure
kk
one sec then
Intel core i9 13900k, MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi Gaming Motherboard, 2 TB nvme samsung evo 970, 32 Gigs corsair vengeance DDR5 RGB ram, Corsair RMX Series (2021), RM1000x, 1000 Watt, Gold, Fully Modular Power Supply, Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix Liquid CPU Cooler, RGB Pump + Fans, 360mm, Corsair iCUE 5000X RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX PC Smart Case - Black
and a gpu that i didnt decide on yet
My recommendation is to drop that CPU to a 13700k for temperature reasons more than anything. That pc is like god tier and should perform well in pretty much any game tho
If a game doesn't perform well blame the game
ok, and is a 970 evo plus good enough?
because I dont wanna waste any shit on the best storage options
It's probably the best pcie 3 nvme SSD. You could go for a faster drive but there's not much point. It's hard to tell the difference at those sorts of speeds anyway
No problem, those parts are beyond the price I'd ever be willing to pay but they're objectively good performing so if you're comfortable paying go for it
Yeah. They are around 3K and my budget is like 3.5K. But I need a good monitor and some rgb keyboard and mouse so yeah
ima play vr so cya and thx for help
@exotic bear would u recommend a core i5 13600k for people like me who dont wanna overclock and get their cpu to be really hot.
bc the base clock looks faster
Base clock doesn't really matter, it's more about the boost clocks now and the 13600k is slower than the rest of Intel's 13th gen in that regard. I'd go for the 13700k
Ok thanks I checked and then 13900k and 13700k are actually not different
Of course 13900k is better tho
But I'm better with 13700k
yeah that doesn't surprise me really
Can a 4080 handle huge vr explosions or like huge vr things that the quest can't handle
For example the anzio mod on bonelab
can't say for sure but I'd say almost certainly, the 4080 is faster than the 3090 ti so if it can run on a 3090 ti then id say yes itll run fine
Ok. I got inspired to do it on quest from a youtuber. Most youtubers have high end rtx 30 series
So I think I might be fine
yeah
Thanks for all the help!!
no problem
Honestly they're pretty similar currently although AMD is less power hungry for the performance making it easier to cool
@exotic bear this might be too much for me. Im probs gonna custom build online
ibuypower made a sick deal so yeah ill pick that up mid this year
Also may I know ur pc specs?
If u have no problem
I'm just curious
i5 12600kf, 32GB 3600mhz ram, Rx 6800
Ok that good
@exotic bear Is 4080 gonna be overkill for ultra high setting gaming and vr
like would a 3080 just do better value or something
3080ti I’ve heard is the better bang for your buck
yeah im gonna get 3080 for a lower price rn. And then next year for my bday ill get a new gpu
thats my plan
Im starting out with 32 gig ram rtx 3080 core i7 13700k
Nice
do u have gaming pc?
1440p
In terms of value anything but the ultra high end is best value. So 3080s or 6800 xt, 6800 or 3070 ti etc are better value than the 4000 series but you were already looking at the 3080 ti and 3090 which at least here in the UK arre the same price or more expensive than 4080s
I am honestly gonna get a 3070 ti or a 3080 now and get a better gpu in a Christmas sale at the end of this year
Because I will end up paying too much
Ye
what gpu
hmm yeah, but I honestly think that for 1080p and ray tracing the 4070 ti would do well for me
Yeah that makes sense tbh
And im pretty sure later this year in like november there are gonna be new gpu that I can buy for less so umm then ill just get something better at that time
also please take care of this kid called pug who is spamming some nonsense in the general chat and is posting all nonsense in the help channels
Understandable, I think a 3080 or 3070 ti would probably be plenty for what you're looking at anyway
Ffs gimme a sec
yeah. I just wanna play at ultra high settings with atleast 100 fps and all my cross buy games like bonelab
Bonelab is crossbuy?
yeah. if u buy on quest
Huh ok, idrc cause I got it on steam I just didn't realise
lol. Either way the crossbuy is on pcvr oculus store which is kinda dogshit
I try to buy most games through steam cause I'll probably get a headset from a different company at some point and don't want to be tied to oculus for all my games
OH SHIT I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT 💀💀💀💀
Lmfao
once i get my gaming pc, im gonna be steam all the way
Yeah, steam just kinda works, half the time the oculus protal thing just refuses to open steam vr
Yeah, thats why the dogshit we all know as alvr exists
but vd also exists
but it cost like idk 20$
Meh I just deal with it, usually just have to force close steamvr and open it again through the oculus software
Lol kk
does this look cool?
its like 800$
and it preforms better than 3090 ti
i think my previous idea was better. Get a 3070 ti or a 3080 and then buy something better in november sale
Well how much is a 3080 or 3070 ti?
In my custom build it takes away atleast 300-400 bucks away
so then it would be like 2.7k
would this be a good idea?
what company
Any really, just name the 5 cheapest ig
founders edition it is.
Are they actually available?
3070 ti is but 3080 isnt. and im doing custom build online because I am afraid i might break something. But IBUYPOWER has both in stock
Are you going through ibuypower?
Yeah, they are just better
i would have done lyte, but they have no intel 13th gen
Fair enough, how much difference is there for 3080 Vs 3070 ti on their website?
lemme see
a 3070 ti costs 45 dollars less
Then 3080 it is
does the 3080 still have value like to this day?
My 6800 was £460 in black Friday sales, 3080s in the UK are still like 700 new
But if you care about ray tracing go for Nvidia
ohh damnnn
I need ray tracing. The 3080 handles it really well. If i like it, i might not even change the gpu in november
Yeah it was a really good deal, had to import from Spain tho
damn
Tbh if I were you I'd get a 3080 a d stick with it for a couple years
hmmm alr. But does 3080 have future proofing
It had future proofing for the last 2 years
The only thing it doesn't have is dlss 3 which looks pretty shit anyway in my opinion
hmmm. The value isnt great for what it says
@exotic bear Is there like a "Good liquid cooler" or a "Bad Liquid Cooler" or are coolers coolers?
I tend to go for air cooling tbh, there are better liquid coolers but most are based off a very similar design, as long as it has a 360mm or 280mm radiator I wouldn't think too much about ut
Hmm alr
GG @cosmic turtle, you just advanced to level 14!
Why air cooling?
oh shit i just built it in a godlike way @exotic bear
after some configs I made it just 3K
Personal preference really, it's cheaper for similar performance but can't reach as high performance
oh kk
Looks decent to me
can something be better (pls dont say gpu)
the gpu is rly good according to reviews
It's good just not in terms of value, for the build you're doing it works pretty well tho
I don't think you need a 1000w PSU tho, 850 would be fine
Like i said, i will probs be upgrading later. I do not want to waste a power supply when i get a better gpu
but i need like 700 watts
and also 1000W is only 10 bucks more
Oh right lol
lol so its not worth downgrade at all
Nah not really
MY PARENTS SAID THAT IF I PROMISE NOT TO ASK FOR A PC FOR A FEW MORE YEARS THEY CAN GET ME A 4090
but if i get low end i can upgrade later
Damn, nice
i mean should i or should i get a normal gpu now and wait for a 5000 series to come out
I want nvidia only because I want ray tracing to be actually good
I would do it
alr
Idk if a 4080 comes at better value tho. with a 4080 a pc will cost 3K but with a 4090 it would be 4k
Gpu choosing help post
4090 is better value than the 4080 for some reason
Yeah idk why
Oh a 4080 is 1300$
And a 4090 is 1600$
Nvidia wants everyone to spend the extra for a 4090
That really sucks ngl
Yeah but then what do you expect, it's not that much more in terms of cost for them but it's a lot more profit
The 4090 offer almost 70% more cores and stuff than the 4080 does so the performance is significantly better tho
Ye
The 3070 will hold me on for now, my budget isnt huge. Ill get a better gpu in a sale later. I dont wanna get a good gpu now and just watch Nvidia's 5000 series release the day after lol
I mean as of rn there’s not a huge difference between 3000 and 4000 series compared to the 2000 and 3000 series
Really just higher fps and more optimization with what we currently have
Yeah, ill get a 3070 for now and see if ill ever need another one later
Your parents offered you a 4090 did they not? If that's the case why not wait and get that since you wouldn't be paying for it?
They did, but because of cost I won't be able to upgrade later. And Nvidia might ditch the 40 series because it's failing like shit
The thing if I get a 4090 now, I can't switch for a few more years and none of nvidia's 40 series have value. So the 5000 series might be better. So I'll get a 3070/3080 now and then get a better gpu (if it's worth it) this November in the sale. If it's not worth it ill get a better one next year for my bday or like some time
theyre not gonna ditch something theyve spent billions on, the reason its failing is more the price than any technological reasons, next generation wont come out till at least 2024 and if you were to get a 4090 there would be no reason to upgrade for a few years
if youd rather get a 3070 or something more like that then go for it, theyre still great cards
I wanna spend less for now. The 30 series has better value and dlss 3 is not a big thing rn. Also, the 3080 or 3090 are still future proof
Wait shit I forgot... the rtx 4070 ti exists right?
GG @cosmic turtle, you just advanced to level 15!
Indeed it does
I can get that if it's not shit
Would u recommend it?
Or is the 4080 just better
Uhhh, it's difficult to say. It's pretty disappointing but it performs pretty well. It's similar to a 3090 ti
I think a 40 series might be overkill for this: Valorant, vr (Bonelab, Pop 1, beatsaber), Rdr2, Minecraft, Warzone 2.0 etc. At atleast high or ultra graphic settings.
What resolution are you playing at?
Oh definitely then, I would get anything faster than a 3070 for 1080p really, 1440 would be great with a 3080
Alr.
I'm using ibuypower as my custom build but they just have most used gpu. Since no one buys the 3090 u can't find a 3090 there. And clx charges more for some reason so idk if I shud just go with a 3080
I'd just go with a 3080 personally
I was planning on getting one for a while but the pricing is way worse than Radeon cards in the UK so I got an Rx 6800 on a really good deal
Hmm alr. A 3080 is still godly and will make a godly pc with a core i7 13700k
Honestly I'd consider going with a 13600k at that point
Nah, I need a good boost clock
Rate a 13700k and a 3080 paired together out of 10 if u can
Does it have a better boost clock tho
I'm just gonna future proof my pc, a 4080 or 4090 will do fine
@exotic bear it turns out i was losing all my money on the Ibuypower pre applied accessories, I unchecked them and im saving like 500-600$. I can get a 4080
Oh nice
A 4090 PC IS ONLY 3800$ WITHOUT THE ACCESORIES!!!!!!!!
Seems reasonable considering 4090s are like 1800-2000 rn
yeah, thats actually a really good price ngl
