Nope, but it definitely helps. Units that don't sync like Bianca, Olympia or Lucian in some setups are not that important to EX in comparison to damage dealers and supports for sync buff

Just use protect before Rosa sync (when his damage is the lowest) and make sure that enemies don't aoe hit you, if they hit Steven, then reset

Most super high end clears in this game seem to be quad queue reliant especially if they don’t have ways to accel or queue cut to make up for it, and that’s not even taking into count doing that for full turn skipping otherwise
