Fire Special CS (DEC23-JAN24)

I left this until the last day as usual and gave myself a hard time by 2v3ing the whole thing with water types (chalem counts dont @ me)

r1 lana was an easy pick here to wide guard on the initial heat wave and then kris cleaned up with her sync + mega kick

r2 i tried this team for so long against malva first and i continue to state that 1/5 archie sucks. once i switched to shauntal these two had a much easier time

r3 this clear took the longest by far. i've never been very good at sleep chanining but the stage passive + round parameter meant longer sleep in general so elio worked his magic. clearing relied on enemies staying asleep as long as possible so nessa could presync mid, then keep the sides asleep after to mop up

r4 they're both 1/5 so this clear was also very reset heavy. cerena had to get a flinch turn 1 and then chalem had to get lucky on shuriken to set rain as soon as possible, then after serena's sync she had to dodge 4-5 moves

r5 johto supremacy

r1 argenta compliments emmett well here for double swords dance fun

r2 wanted to play with ny clair’s new passive which allowed leaf and hilda to blast off sun boosted moves without giving flint the same advantage. neat trick but clair doesn’t provide much else for them aside from some free gauge. her lack of sustain at 1/5 is a real problem too

r3 1/5 silver continues to be a bit of a disappointment, i really should candy him. i have special reduction in bc otherwise irida would wipe the stage herself but the number of times he misses triple axel is devastating

r4 now this one is fun. marnie tanks really well between her midpoint mend, flinching, and protect while the other two whittle the stage down

r5 this is such a fun combo lol

Normally my HS goal is 300k but I had more investment than normal for Grass so I set a goal of 400k thinking it was too lofty. and yet!

v Ramos 700 STR

• I gave SS Leaf a candy for this since she didn’t appear in my dailies and she remains one of my favorite outfits this game. Both of her 5/5 tiles are essential in this clear as 1/5 SS Lyra provides almost no damage. This was a good exercise in practicing flinch timing tho

v Erika 700 STR

• NC Leaf continues to pay dividends. 1/5 Sycamore doesn’t have a ton of longevity but the additional dps from brendan helps clear faster

v Mallow 400 STR

• The struggle clear. SC sonia at 1/5 is ROUGH and she needs double support to pull thru even at low strength. If I had more time I feel like Selene or Brendan would honestly do better here

v Gardenia 666 STR

• I got the third red copy two days before the event ended so I’m glad I saved this one for last. I was hoping to clear without having to EX Mallow but the rng was too sketchy with trying to have Shauna hold on until at least the opponent’s second sync. Breloom stop recovering from confusion right before Mallow’s sync Challenge 2024 (Impossible)

it’s just like me to build very scuffed teams for rounds 1-4 because “i’m saving my good supports for later” and then i get to round 5 and it’s super overkill time

r1 1/5 lisia still feels bad, and worse with terrible partners. so many missed giga impacts….

r2 this one was quite comfy, and very funny to have valerie pop in at +3 crit due to them all packing sharp entry

r3 i tried using lodge leaf here for a while but erika worked better? how?? also continuing to pair volo with serena to patch up her crit issues

r4 the other two are just there to take hits while bede does his dark work

this is ofc kanto CS so its very easy but the ease of the clear gives me confidence it can handle harder regions

I wonder how the rotations will work on the higher base-HP stages, since you want to get the rebuff in with Larry but Palmer also really wants to hit that first full HP crush grip with a couple of MUNs

r2 i don’t think i’ve tried paulo with raihan yet, his ramping really helps and i just spammed rock slide with raihan to build up for cakewalk and preserve his SEUN from TM so he wiped the stage with his sync

r3 lucked into him on a daily and wow i did not expect him to off type 100% of the stage just with dps. i was ready to click his sync move for second sync but his b move just deleted mid once the sides were gone. silly unit

r4 also cleared well before second sync, palmer deleted mid with his first crush grip after anabel’s sync

r5 ludi looks so silly on the victory stage bookended by suicunes

you still have to be careful in how you use palmer’s max and b moves but larry’s additional dps and better sync really helps

the video is kinda shoddy play but you can see how the three of them work well together

well, anabel is really just there to take hits and set zone but

at least tm mpr saves larry from having to raise his own crit

palmer grid and larry have lots of sync accel to help with the rotations it’s more about picking your targets wisely

since they both lack aoe apart from palmer’s sync

Right I think my other big concern was Palmer not hitting hard enough since I usually run him with constant PMUN batteries but Larry's own damage should make up for that nicely
