for me, im focused on MFs as well, although im not afraid to skip one if im not gonna have interest in it... ...ive found its easier for me to be swayed for them too, but the more my roster expands, the harder itll be for typical temptations to sway me one way or another. i believe im still on the metaphorical ledge on when ill succeed in not being baited in any way.

i've been skipping MFs left and right. it's so hard to maintain a full MF collection as a f2p nowadays. you can, but you'll have to sacrifice pokefairs and seasonals that might be your faves

with MFs at least, we know they will rerun every 25th. it might take a long while for newer MFs to come back, but some pokefairs have them beat when it comes to rerun time

First thing: we’ve got to face facts: you cannot rely on luck at all. If you could gacha games would all hit EoS.
But saving in this game is pretty easy. A good rule of thumb is that a yolo multi dropped here is one less multi for a favorite character. Also consider that there is no meta so you can afford to save for that favorite character without worrying about power-creep.
In the meantime, let’s set you some decent goals. First up is 3000 gems, then 10,000, then 20,000, then the final push to 36,600.

You should make a small list of favorite characters and save for them! Also add on a few older units you want if you’d like.

My way to restrain myself is to avoid the banners at all costs. Swipe from the small window in the pokemon center to get to the daily scout instead of going to the sync pair scouts page and seeing all the big banners

I started out having “good luck,” as well, and how did I move forward from that?
Stop while I was ahead. Especially because one’s good luck yesterday means nothing today, unfortunately.
Use what you have now, and try to make everything you have work.

Even going off purely free units offered to you, you can earn and complete just about all you need to.
Try to find satisfaction and fun in figuring out how you can play with what you’ve got currently, and focus on that entirely. You’ve gotta try to take banners out of your mind entirely

If you have 36.6K and pull for a 2% pf, you’ll probably get it in around 15K gems (and that’s stretching)

Then in a month you get 23~K

And you find yourself with more gems than last month

And you just repeat that cycle until you have to pity, but, when that happens, you’ll already have more gems accumulated

So it won’t be that bad

You should always expect getting much deeper

Because the moment you hit one or two pities in a row with that mentality, you're done

Saving makes so getting shafted is just an annoyance, not an actual setback if not a waste of resources

Yep i only realised this recently and the damage was done. Selects are cheaper when aiming certain units. So unless you really like the mix pair, if unlucky it will costs like 30k paid for it. So i just stopped pulling it early even without getting mix blue, just gonna save my current pity points when a real legendary/mythical/UB/paradox pairing appear as a mix pair

If getting the orbs bundle, it will need 10 of them to guarantee a mix pair. So around 6+ months, in which case the featured mix pair already changes to another pair

I've sorta relaxed on the game for quite a while now, obsessing less over every little thing than I used to. Which helped! After all, it's one thing to hyper-optimise every bit of gameplay and resource gain, only to steadily drain myself of the urge to play in the first place (over a prolonged period).
But honestly, while that worked great for ages, it still wore me down a little bit to feel like I had to catch up with everything, one way or another. Made my dailies and all feel like a liiittle too much of a chore, on a consistent basis. So I ended up half-assing/half-finishing things more and more often, especially as of recent. Thinking about the gems and resources I've missed out on, it's definitely added up, and has started to make all my prior effort feel wasted.

I can't keep doing that. I don't want to lose out on half/most of the available rewards over several months, but I still feel like I need a proper break. So I'm not gonna half-ass it. I'm going to mostly cut off from the game for a little while, and accept what resources I'll lose out on in the short-term. So that when I return, I can come at it with a stronger drive to play, save gems, etc. Overall, I think that'll be best for my enjoyment of the game, and also best for my resource saving in the long-term

TL;DR: Taking a more deliberate break from the game, to properly recharge and stop half-assing my resource saving in the long-term, at the cost of more in the short-term

each event has missions to complete

some of them for clearing stages a certain number of times (usually up to 50 times i think)

you don't need to literally play 50 times you can use skip tickets

there's rewards for clearing the battle challenges

and also clearing them with specific teams that have certain "theme skills"

the daily missions give you 80 gems a day and there's also daily/weekly/monthly gems in the gem shop to collect

clearing battle rally gives 300 a week, though i think you only unlock that after clearing champion stadium for the first time ?

I kinda messed up with gem saving, just not in the usual "I pulled on impulse" way...
I tried to beat Cheren's Special Stadium in MM and completely forgot to beat it regularly for the gems first, and I got so busy these past couple weeks that I just lost 600 gems from it.
Not to mention last week's Rally gems too
I've also missed most of the past two weeks' gem counts, but that's more of a school thing so it doesn't matter as much as the other two.

having a pity means you prepared for the worst, and your fav pair can never run away from you

so, continue saving until you have a pity at least, 95% content of this game can be beaten with f2p pairs and permanent 5*
