May be a skill issue but I ||pulled Bulurola|| during the first run and at 1/5 she was not a carry for me during the Battle Challenges (had to candy to get there)

and yeah, ||1/5 SS Mina|| isn’t even as good as that; not worth the risk if you don’t want her

Here’s an illustrative example: I ||pulled on the March 2023 triple banner aiming for Lucas or Anni Raihan, the only limited I got from there (3 or 4 multis in)|| was the one I wanted the least ||(Classic Red)||

||Rain use is limited to just 2 with no way to refresh (even with full kit), so not great for longer battles. Similar case for Fairy zone, there's no way to set it again unless 3/5. The defenses are nice but nothing crazy, SpAtk +6 is often not necessary, and she has no way to raise crit at all 1/5. She's not bad per se, but compared to like Acerola for example definitely lackluster||

A single candy isn't worth it for an EBE. If you think about it this way, you're getting a whole copy of a unit, which could otherwise have taken you to pity, or close, if you were pulling on a banner.

So to spend candies just for 300-600 gems is never worth it

You gotta check if you already have all the units on 3/5 though. This is just my opinion though I'm recovering from a regret pull last night haha... but you are risking just 100. Most savers will say they would rather save this for select later on though. ||

I was also thinking of pulling the tapus since i dont have any of them (new player here), but looking at my roster and see a number of fave units that i want to candy got me thinking:

1. If i pulled them, do i have enough resources to upgrade them?
   Level caps, candies, codexes, sync orbs, theme skill resources are pretty thin as new guy.
2. Do i really need them?
   As they are a great bunch, i’m pulling them just for meta. Will i use them often? Prolly not.

If you look at the probability ||to pull a 1% banner, you have 50% chance to get the unit in 7 pulls or 21k gems. 2% banner you have 58% chance to get the unit in 4 pulls or 12k gems, multi banner odds are even better but gotta factor in the random chance of the unit you want.

Despite on some months you will be pitying, the maths works out for more than 1 pull per month in the long run assuming not every banner you pull is MF.||

Hi all, I just started playing the game a week ago. I made some hasty decisions in the current banners that fortunately turned out well for me, but I understand that this luck won't hold out in the long term.

I realize that I need to plan out my upcoming pulls, and I hope that laying everything out like this will help reduce the temptation to 'yolo'. I hope this is the right place to post this. Advice for saving is appreciated.

Suppose the avg monthly gem income is 25k. Then, in the worst case scenario, it's possible to guarantee 8 units in a year. There are four units I like that I think are likely to rerun next year and that I will definitely pull if they come (assuming I have 36k gems on hand). As for the remaining 4 units, I'll 'reserve' 2 for half-anniversary and 2 for anniversary. I'll save 'excess' gems from any units obtained before pity, and the only other banner I'll consider is a triple pokefair in which all three units are highly desirable and not yet owned.

Please let me know if there is anything else I should consider.

thats a solid strategy! although you didnt take account of new alts and introduction of your faves

you should make pulling tierlists first, one for rerun and one for faves in general (try to include your most faves only, to keep the lists reasonable). if you can afford paid gems, getting rerun units is a bit easier with select banners (tho its fine if you cant, but you have to be smart at planning and saving)

If you're not aware, there's a resource dedicated to tracking reruns in #1009553004350931054, I want to just point you to the "schedule" which is located here: #1142434215208702073 message . They tend to follow this release cycle for themed units, this shows you the months when they release seasonal or themed content. In between all these dates several poke and master fairs can release of course. So plan wisely.

its a good strat, but do take note that anni unit tends to come in trio. the next upcoming anni will happen in about end feb, which is about 2.5 months away. If you do happen to end up liking all the anni-themed units, you might need to factor in 3 units instead of 2.

Thanks for the advice. I think I had been implicitly counting on a 'buffer' since (a) the likelihood of hitting pity on all 8 banners is very very low and (b) I won't use the pulls 'reserved' for anni if I don't like the units.

However, thanks for pointing out the 'surprises' I wasn't considering. If I'm really unlucky, I suppose I'll skip the banner and stick to the original plan, and then get the unit on a rerun the following year. Hopefully I'll have the self-control not to pull if that happens.

The tierlist is a good idea. I'm not sure I can rank units that haven't come out yet, but I'll make one for the reruns I'm considering. And that might be a solution also, that is, making a decision to forgo the lowest-ranked unit for an unexpected favourite or an anni in which I like all three units. Thanks again for the help.

can vouch, making a tierlist for rerun units and potential fave alts is very very helpful

for reruns, my tierlist goes something like this

i used to have two units on the "must have no matter what" list, so i made sure i stayed above two pities at all times in case they rerun

3k select is a multi of 15 pulls on top of being able to select an unit from the pool of your choice, 5k select is a multi of 25 pulls instead with an unit of your choice from the pool (5k selects will have a bigger number of limited units available as well)

Only time I’d consider myself is if a mega fav gets added to gen and I don’t nat pull them on way to a limited pair, but that’d require spending quite regularly on the orb bundle to have the spare between potential limited selects (annis and ny along with whatever surprise milestone celebrations, usually are danger times for selects)
Mainly bc I’d rather not commit 7.5k on release or a free pity, even if it’s a huge fav, but 2k I’d be down for bc of how diluted gen pool is getting. (This is ofc once in lifetime consideration to begin with: that’d require one of few favs to even get gen pooled lmao. Never do this if you are with a big set of trainers)

My dear friends, I had a reflection today and I need to write it out, and I've chosen here to do it because it's kinda related.

Long story short, I was reminded today by a good experience that I had irl, that my life doesn't have to be entirely about chasing hedonic pleasure, even though that is what it may have become lately. Hedonic pleasure being the transient "drug-like" highs of exactly the things in life that you might imagine: junk food, gambling, things that are too explicit for this server, etc. The other kind of pleasure, eudimonism or eudimonic pleasure is also very sweet and can make you feel good too, but you have to work harder and even suffer to get there initially, especially if you are like me and often find yourself trapped in a bit of a hedonic loop.

Saving gems, skipping the newest and shiniest banners, in exchange for the comfort of having a pity saved for a fave, is a good eudimonic thing. But even better, imo is actually what I like the most about this game which is the enjoyment of the daily grind itself. The daily, self-limiting tasks. The short and medium-term goals of beating the Battle Challenges, EBEs, Battle Villa, weekly CS, getting the missions done, etc; which slowly but surely lead you towards having a powerful and growing account, like going to the gym and seeing yourself get stronger. The satisfaction of achieving goals and checking off to-dos.

Now... I know this game will EOS one day so these gains may not be quite as long term as I'd like but just wanted to leave that to consider...

personally I feel that as long as you do not save too excessively that you even skip faves it's fine, altho one should not mix up with faves and phantom faves

altho I personally dont really have any faves for trainers atm
